What To Do If You Ever Lose Your Fitbit

Keep in mind that I'm not an expert at this, do not work for Fitbit, and can't guarantee that they'll help you out, but if you go through the pain of losing your device, this may come in handy.
My Charge HR slipped off of my wrist this morning, and someone immediately picked it up and kept it. I know that because the guy who picked it up made a faint attempt at getting my attention, but I was 1) in the zone with headphones on and 2) late for work.
I didn't realize what he'd said to me about "you dropped your watch" as I power walked to my building until I was in my office. Damn.
I thought all was lost until I went online to see if there was anything I could to locate my Fitbit, and saw that several people had asked Fitbit itself to replace their lost devices. It seems absurd, but apparently, Fitbit likes to keep its customers happy. There are more than a few accounts of people getting free replacements from Fitbit.
I figured that I'd give it a try, because I'd already lost my beloved tracker. I called Customer Service, which after a bit of back and forth about the tech support issue I'd reported in December (and that went unresolved), they agreed to give me twenty-five percent off of a new Fitbit. I wasn't happy, but the guy had been nice. I was prepared to eat the cost when I saw that the e-mailed discount included a statement about my device being out of warranty, but Fitbit was still willing to do something for me. Something about that just rubbed me the wrong way, and I still can't put my finger on why. I sank my hard-earned money into their product that began to malfunction four months into my ownership, they'd failed to help me with (despite the warranty), and now they wanted me to be happy with a partial discount when they'd given free devices to others in my position.
Scoffing at the offer, I called back, and after a few tries, got in touch with a supervisor. He was sympathetic, but seemed primed to say no, as others had done earlier. You can imagine my surprise when he said he was sending me a new one, and in my preferred color (I'm going from Plum to Teal). That made my week, let me tell ya.
I share my story not to brag, but rather to encourage people to reach out to Fitbit in the event that you lose your device and can't afford to shell out nearly $200 for another one. Even if they don't give you a free one, you'll at least get a decent discount.
Just a little FYI.
