Fitbit including steps during exercise

I have had my Fitbit for a few weeks now. It seems like when I log my exercise into MFP it still adds steps for that time frame. I got up to work out at six this morning and by the end of my 30 minute workout I had about 1300 steps. Is there something I could be missing in my setup? I thought it would give me no steps during exercise periods.

I believe it will override calorie burn information for that time period and not erase any step information.
However, most of us log all our exercise in Fitbit since the estimates in Fitbit are better than what MFP gives. Step-based activities shouldn't be logged in either place as your Fitbit takes care of those.
Have you read the FAQ here? Lots of helpful info in there, and I think this question gets answered, too.

Your Fitbit counts all of your steps that it sees. Why would it exclude exercise steps? Why would you want it to exclude steps taken while exercising?
macgurlnet is right about logging exercise in Fitbit, not MFP, and right about recommending the FAQ. Here's a handy link: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10098937/faq-syncing-logging-food-exercise-calorie-adjustments-activity-levels-accuracy/p10 -
I went through it briefly but I got confused as I thought it did not count any steps during exercise periods, just the calories burned. I am glad it counts step then but wanted to make sure I am going this right since I always have leftover Fitbit calories. My issue with relying on it for exercise over my polar HRM is that once I get sweaty, it slides off down my arm repeatedly. I did use it today during my Piyo routine since it did not fall off and I do not use my HRM.0

If you want to use the data from your Polar HRM instead of your Fitbit, go ahead and enter it manually. In that case, since you're getting the calorie burn value from you Polar, not from MFP's lousy estimates, you can enter it either in Fitbit or MFP. I'd still enter it in Fitbit, but that's just my preference.0
