Polar V800 vs. Suunto Ambit3 Peak

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a GPS new watch and I have narrowed my decision down to the Polar V800 or the Suunto Ambit3 Peak. The reason I have chosen these 2 is for the extended battery life. I'm getting into longer and longer runs preparing for ultra marathons and want the longer battery life.

I have been using the Polar M400 and the Suunto Ambit2 R over the last year and love both watches. I did have some minor issues with the Polar which need to be repaired under warranty. However, I really like Polar's Flow web site. Suunto's Movescount not so much.

Are there any long term users of either of these products that could provide some feedback on any problems or reliability issues you may have come across? Or,maybe just some good advice as to which product you prefer and why.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm not the market for a Garmin (been there done that and regretted it ever since).

    Following along.

I'm looking at the suunto as a replacement for my all too fussy garmin. The lack of ant+ support is the biggest downside to me (as a triathlete). IMO, suunto is head and shoulders above everyone else in terms of reliability.

Movescount always used to stink, sounds like it still does... so most of my data will probably end up getting dumped into strava or something else.

Yeah, I'm on my 3rd 910xt. The altimeters keep getting sketchy and I'll get jumps in my elevation. As far as I can tell, it seems to be related to sunscreen. Because, you know, that should be a problem for something that you wear on your wrist to use outdoors...

I'm leaning to the Ambit2 if I need to get another watch because of the ANT+ support. The lack of the ANT+ on the 3 just kills it for me.

Bumping this as I get more serious about upgrading my Garmin 610.

I'm looking more for a triathlon watch, but am interested in any garmin vs suunto comments. My garmin has been REALLY fussy/unreliable, so I'm hesitant to get another. But there is so much garmin love out there, maybe I just got a dud of a watch?

I don't know anything about Suunto, but my Garmin 920XT has been a huuuuuge improvement from any previous version I'd used.
