Winter Storm Jonas and Fitbit: Anyone else experience elevated floor count?

Hi!

I woke up about two hours ago, and my fitbit says I climbed 16 flights of stairs so far (when I only did one). I'm suspecting that it is due to atmospheric pressure changes due to Winter Storm Jonas but am wondering if anyone else is experiencing something similar.

I feel like a fitbit geek. I ended up taking off my fitbit and ran up the remaining 15 flights of stairs, though now I'm mad my step count is off (if my staircase is 15 steps, one flight up and down would be 30 steps... multiply that by 15, and I get 450 steps not counted). Now I'm looking forward to all the steps I'll be getting while shoveling two feet of snow. :p

    Do not obsess over your floor count. Don't try to make it correct. It doesn't affect any calorie calculations, so by taking your Fitbit off and doing 15 flights of stairs you cost yourself accuracy where it matters - in calories burned.

    The floor count is notoriously inaccurate although I think Fitbit says they've improved it. I don't know because I stopped paying attention to it a long time ago. If you like to use it as a motivational measure, you just have to accept that sometimes it will be wrong.

    We all get extra flights of stairs when a storm occurs, doesn't count into the calorie calculation as Nancy mentioned.
    Just disregard it and don't worry about it. You have other things that need your attention. And snow shoveling is a great way to get in steps, I live in Colorado and get to do that a lot.

    wow!! this happened to me yesterday! I had like 14 floors.. and I live in a ranch.

    Yep, agree 100% with all of the above - weather fluctuations can definitely have an impact on your floor count, but it doesn't impact your calories burned in any way, so while it's a little irritating if you really like that stat, it's best to just see it as a bit of bonus info and not really get too hooked on how accurate it is, because this is sure to happen again.

    One time a year or two ago I went to the zoo on a very windy day with my kids and walked around for 2 or 3 hours. I live in the Midwest and it's, you know, a zoo - a few stairs here and there on the way in and out of buildings and such, but no major inclines or steps to climb, pretty flat ground all around. I ended that trip having apparently climbed 86 flights of stairs in that 2 hours. :lol::lol:

    My fitbit goes the other way... it doesn't count my flights. I had to get up to let the dog ouside, one flight down then another flight back upstairs, and apparently I only did one flight. One day, I was actually doing a lot of stairs, and it only counted 2... I was quite disappointed even though I know I did more than that. Haha I would rather it give me more credit than not enough
