Oh joy, I was diagnosed yesterday. I'm hoping with diet and excercise, I can move back into the pre-diabetic stage. My #'s weren't awful, but at 6.7 A1C, I started meforin 500 mg today. Hope to be off it with my next three month A1C. Anyone else out there in diabetes world?

Hello!! I was told I had type 2 about 5 years ago. I took metformin, januvia & glipizide: different dosages, different combinations. Last May I started eating Paleo. I started losing weight & my blood sugar started dropping. My doctor started cutting my dosages & discontinuing medications. Last November my doctor took me off my last medication. I went for blood work last week & got my results a couple days ago: my A1c is 5.6. I've been completely off my meds since early November. You can cure your diabetes; it just takes a little work.1

I'm not so sure about the cure, but control. If you ate a donut, I'm guessing your sugar would spike. I'm gonna guess that once the weight normalizes, keto or paleo is life long lifestyle to keep the blood sugar from spiking. Do you still check your blood sugar?0 -
If anyone ate a donut, their blood sugar would spike. It's the simple carbs. Refined carbohydrates are quickly broken down into sugar & hence the spike. Once the donut is metabolized, your blood sugar crashes, usually lower than before, so your brain sends out cravings for simple carbs (donuts etc) in an effort to normalize your blood sugar. This is why complex carbs (i.e. broccoli) is a better carb choice: it takes longer to break down & metabolize so no spike, even blood sugar levels. I still check my blood sugar & it's normal, usually in the high 80's to mid 90's depending on the time of day. I've not taken any medication for my blood sugar since November 7, 2015 (dr's orders). I'll probably stick with the Paleo even after I hit my goal weight simply bc I think it's healthier than my old eating habits, which were high in simple carbs & low in nutrition.1
