Steps tracking duplicating excersize logging on MFP?

Two questions for the gurus out there. If I have Fitbit syncing with MFP, and I walk on a treadmill for 45 minutes. I have been logging this as excersize. Does the Fitbit automatically adjust to get to total calories burned, or am I falsely double counting? (Once as steps on Fitbit, and again as logged walking)?

No, it shouldn't double count, (as long as you don't also manually log it in Fitbit) but you're going to overwrite Fitbit's estimate of calories burned with the probably poorer estimate from MFP, and make it so you can't see your Fitbit data properly, either. Your Fitbit is made to track walking, let it do what you got for.

I know that when you connected your Fitbit account to your MFP account, MFP told you that you should log your exercise in MFP, but that's just to keep your eyeballs on MFP's site longer. MFP's strength is its food logging function. Fitbit's food logging isn't nearly as easy to use, but its exercise logging (either automatically or manually) is thought to be superior to MFP's. So use each program for it's strengths.

I'd recommend that you read the FAQ found in the stickies, if you haven't already. Here's a handy link: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10098937/faq-syncing-logging-food-exercise-calorie-adjustments-activity-levels-accuracy/p1

Actually, MFP recommends logging exercise only in FitBit and food only in MFP. Personally I've found the exercise calculations usid in MFP to be quite generous and inaccurate. Since FitBit is feeding all the activity data in, it's best to keep it all within Fitbit. This will ensure the net calories you get each day are accurate. The link Nancy shared is quite in-depth, yet written by a Member and not official from Tech Support from MFP or FitBit.

With your FitBit on, there is no need to log an exercise for Treadmill as the tracker picks up on the activity. More than 10 minutes of it and automatically tags it as an exercise.

    Hope this helps!
