Hi there! I am Rachel, and I started this group because I am hoping it will be a good place to talk about fitness and health while I prepare for a total hysterectomy in 8 weeks. I have long term fitness and weight loss goals, but for now, my world has been shrunk down to the next two months and what follows the surgery. I am just hoping to stay as healthy and fit as I can, and lose some weight before the surgery so that it goes as smoothly as possible, and that I am ready to pick up with my long term fitness goals after my recovery. (One of my long term goals is to lose 40-50 pounds by this time next year.)
I am 39 years old, I am about 40 pounds overweight and have been for a few years now. While I have a job that gets me outside and active (hiking mountains, forests, etc.) at least a few days a week, it isn't enough, I haven't been consistent in my exercise, and need to incorporate strength training and greater intensity cardio workouts if I am going to reach my weight loss goals. My Fitness Pal has been super helpful for tracking my foods and helping me adjust my diet as well. I'm much more aware of serving sizes and nutrient content of what I'm eating as well.

I'm Jean, and I fell and broke my wrist in October 2015. I'm getting ready for surgery #2 later this month. I want to get moving, drop some pounds, increase my flexibility and never ever take a bad fall like this again. I started back up with MFP b/c I don't want my recovery to be all about mindless eating while I'm laying around recuperating.
I also want to feel better and look better, and be a good role model for my teen age daughter. Been back here about a week, and I'm already feeling better.0 -

Hey! I'm Diane. I just jumped back on to My Fitness Pal from WW. I've had some success with the WW smart points app and exercise but discontinued today because I'm going to have a total knee replacement (right knee) on May 4. Figured I didn't want to spend the money to track my food and exercise (right??!!) when I'm going to be in recovery and not very active. I've used fitness pal previously and I like that it gives more detail about nutrition. And over the last few months, I've learned how to manage my food choices and portions.
Anyway, I've bee exercising and trying to prepare for better/faster rehab. I agree with you, Jean... I don't want to get back to the mindless eating and have to start all over again with extra weight! Not looking forward to pain or more sedentary lifestyle in the next 6-8 weeks. BUT... hoping that I'll be pain free and have a stable knee which will be a welcome return.1 -
Hi Diane, this is my first day logging in since my surgery. How are you feeling?
Somehow, even though I didn't have enough energy to log in for several weeks, I managed not to gain any weight. I thought about my food choices, even though we blew by my birthday and mother's day. I never thought I could eat just one bite of cheese cake instead of the whole piece, but I did it. One tiny wedge of cheesecake lasted five days.
I have started to walk again, but where they took the bone graft from my knee is now instantly arthritic. I'm not used to needing a minute to get my feet under me when I get up. It feels better when I walk, so I'm trying to walk as much as possible. It's starting to loosen my muscles and I'm hoping the knee isn't permanent.
My wrist is still healing. There are still so many things I can't do, including cooking my own meals. So i'm relying on portion control when hubbs makes something less than healthy.
Pls let me know how your rehab is progressing.0 -
Hi! I'm Sue. I retired in July 2017, had some numbness in my toes, and was referred for spinal fusion/laminectomy back surgery in November '17. The surgery went great, but I will be in recovery for quite awhile. I'm walking 3 miles several days a week now and riding my dual action bike, but I am unable to be as active as I had hoped. I am an avid pickleball player and was playing 3 days a week almost up until the day of my surgery. (I had a VERY pinched nerve in my spinal column, as well as lots of arthritis). The doctor feels that any weight I lose will be a good thing (current weight 174), so I am struggling to finally be successful at weight loss.0
