I know a lot of people already know about this, but it never occurred to me, so I thought I would post. The other night we had tacos. I made all the ingredients as I normally do (ground beef, shredded cheese, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, salsa, sour cream, guac), but then instead of taco shells, we used romaine leaves. The spine of the romaine lettuce totally supports the taco, and they were really good. I can't believe it took me so long to try it. You could do other taco-like things as well like chicken or beef fajitas with toppings or peanut satay.

Great idea! While I make taco salad on a bed of Romaine, I never thought to put it in a 'Romaine shell.' Nice way to enjoy a finger-food, tacos, without the carbs of tortilla shells.

I just planted 12 heads of lettuce that will be ready in about 30 days. I have red Romaine.

Don't know where you live, but lettuce can be planted with temps in the 40's.... basically as soon as you can break ground. Same with Kale.
