These are all optional. I like to set myself challenges as long as they are realistically achievable so here are some that you might like to join in. Some of you will smash these and go way above and beyond. I hope everyone can find some of them achievable. Pick one to focus on that is a challenge for you or do several of them and post whenever you achieve one, then pick another or repeat.
1. Lose 100lb in 15 months
That works out as under 7lb a month average loss, very achievable, leaves room for recovery from bad spells etc.
2.Lose 10lb in a month
Very achievable for most of us who have a lot to lose.
3.Log nutrition in your log every day for a week.
Helps to stay focused.
4.Do some exercise for 5 days plus out of every week.
We all have days where we get flu or just can't do it but excluding really extra severe illness we can usually do something active at least 5 days a week.
5. Resist temptation to sabotage your efforts no matter how tempting or justified it seems. This is about not having a binge that day someone makes you feel close to murderous rage, not giving up when the scales do not reflect your efforts, Not letting that special occasion or treat spill over in to falling off wagon for rest of week or month or 25 years. Treats and occasional slips can be ok as long as they remain treats or occasional slips. The big problem is the mental craziness that leads an off day into becoming on off month or decade.
6. Lose that next 5lb
Good luck to you all

I like the challenges, I think I'll work on logging, and an additional one, not eating after 5 on weekdays, 6 on week-ends. (trying IF)0

I do hereby commit to all of these things.
I’m also doing diet challenges on another forum "Losing It After 50". http://losingitafter50.freeforums.net/ . I’ve been part of a 100% challenge that ends the end of March. I’m also part of challenge where we report weight and exercise minutes for the group. And I’ve been involved in planning a new challenge that should be starting in the coming weeks. It will be called "Give Yourself Credit Challenge". In this challenge, you’ll earn points for activities that help you achieve your fitness goals. It’s in keeping with advice from the book “The Beck Diet Solution” which we’ve also been reading as a group on the forum. In the book the author emphasizes giving yourself credit for all of the things you are doing to meet your fitness goals. The forum was originally set up for people over 50 following the Nutrisystem plan which I’m on, and it’s mostly women, although there are a few guys. Over time, many people originally on Nutrisystem have changed plans and now follow weight watchers or other programs so you don’t need to be on Nutrisystem to be part of the challenge or the forum. Folks under the age of 50 are also welcome to join the challenge and the forum. So, I just want to encourage anyone who is interested to check us out. I’ll be doing at least 3 different challenges in the coming weeks and I get a little something different from each one. What I like about this group is that you all have a better understanding of what someone my size is dealing with. Have a great day.

I think the first one is a little big for me, as I definitely need smaller goals to focus on, but I'm definitely in for numbers 3, 4 and 6.
I was wondering, would anyone be interested in a challenge where we work as a group to achieve a specific target, ie, as a group to walk a certain number of miles per day, or a number of miles in a month, or a step total? There's a couple of websites that I've been looking at using that will give you a starting point, say London or New York for example, and as you add steps, it tells you how far you've gone from that point. We could have a team challenge to do something fun, like walk from London (or wherever) to another city. We could all chip in what we did, however much or little. I'd be happy to help with the logistics of working out distances and the like.0 -
BigChangeNeeded - I think a group step goal is a great idea and thank you for offering to help with the logistics. I would personally have to wait a while to join you as I don't currently walk much. I'm doing seated aerobics for exercise right now. But after I drop another 100 lbs and get down to around 350, I plan to start counting steps.0

Anyone is welcome to start their own thread (green create button near top of threads list on discussion page) on here with new challenges etc or post links if set up own groups or anything like that. I have also added a new recommendations thread where people can post links to anything of interest.0

Thanks OW, you starting this group has been really great, and I'm loving the daily accountability threads, so I just wanted to say a quick thank you0 -
you are all very welcome, you being here is helping me loads too. we are all in it together0

After a birthday party and Easter weekend - weighed in today, and I was able to check off some of these challenges!
2.Lose 10lb in a month
3.Log nutrition in your log every day for a week.
5. Resist temptation to sabotage your efforts no matter how tempting or justified it seems.
I'm going to focus on 5 days of exercise next, since I struggle with that. I'm so incredibly grateful for this group! I haven't been this motivated in a very long time and its amazing to have the support and accountability!

Well done, that is a great list of achievements0

What's that saying 'go big or go home'! I'm in this for life so may as well go for the big one.

Is there a start date and somewhere to record it?0

Well as you asked I have delved in to the unknown territory of google spreadsheets and have had a go at creating one. As I have never used google spreadsheets before I am not sure how well I have succeeded or not.
I am not competitive so I am saying people can choose their own start dates and that way include weight they have already lost if choose to. The aim is to lose 100lb within any 15month window of time. For those who are competitive you can try and lose more in that time than the rest of us if you like but do so safely.

I am only competitive with myself. I want to do better than I have before. I will put my start date as 1st March and then I can record the 15lb I have lost so far.
So 1st March 2016 to 31st May 2017.0 -
Maybe because I had file open or it might be a UK or browser thing? I am not that tech savy, I can do spreadsheets, used to do them for a living but never done an online one before.

It still isn't working, but I am on my work computer. I will try again when I get home.
I also use spreadsheets everyday for work, but have never used the online ones. And I am in the UK.0 -
Ok it works on my phone, so hopefully it will work on my home computer. I will let you know later0
-
thanks, will be interesting to see if it can be got to globally as most members are in USA I believe but we are global group from all over.0
-
Do you think anyone else will join that challenge? Its quite a scary one, but i need something big to aim for.0
-
Hopefully others will join, it is a big challenge but as all of us here have a lot to lose I think it is very achievable. It works out as well under 2lb a week average. I lost 126lb in 9 months in 2009 eating 1200-1400 cal every day and I was not a gym bunny, I just walked a bit when I could and did some swimming towards the end. I did not have any treats in all that time though or any binges. I don't know how I did it. I won't be doing it again, it was unsustainable. 100lb over 15 months is much more gentle than that. I will post challenge on its own thread later maybe.0

Wow that's really good. Yes I agree slower is more sustainable. I only want to lose this weight once and keep it off. I am currently allowing myself 2000 calories a day, but averaging around 1800. If I cut it down anymore I get too hungry. Once my body gets used to that, I am not so hungry and my weight loss slows I will reduce it.
I think if we stay focused and on track at least 90% of the time, then 100lb in 15 months is achievable and will be amazing0 -
ClarissaCLD wrote: »Do you think anyone else will join that challenge? Its quite a scary one, but i need something big to aim for.
I think the only reason I'm hesitant about signing up for the 100lbs loss sheet is that its just such a big number, and there's something about it that I find quite daunting.
I actually still have 164lbs to lose to get to my 'ideal' weight (according to all the charts and graphs), so I've no reason not to, but my brain finds the triple figures somewhat overwhelming.
I guess I've still not decided just yet. If I can get over my apprehension of that number, the big 1-0-0, then I may sign up.
And yes, I know that all makes me sound strange, ha ha.
I signed up to MFP in January, so would I count from then, because I feel that might be a little cheaty as I've already lost 26lbs.0 -

It is very daunting, and you have to do what is right for you and what works for you.
If you did do it, then yes if you want to do it from your start I am sure that is fine. I guess you would need to work out if it would be better to do 100lb in 15 months from now or 74lb in 12 months from your start. We will support you with whatever you decide.

That is not cheaty at all, you put in the work and have lost that weight. You can count from January, considering you have lost 26lb in 3 months you are already well on your way there. It is just for fun , you can use it to just log your monthly losses and track your own targets. If anyone has already lost 98lb within a 15 month window they can log it all in and in a week when lose remaining 2lb they will have achieved the challenge. Use it however you like.0 -

I think I have managed to add my start weigh, but when I saved it, it saved to my computer. Is that right. Can you please see if you can see the update?0 -
yes it is saved on there as well, you must have saved a copy to your computer.0
-
Maybe it automatically saves. Is there anywhere we can put the link that wont get lost as the feeds move down?
0 -
yes the main spreadsheet does save everything added automatically. Maybe save the link in a document on your computer or bookmark this thread, I think there is a little star symbol on threads that lets you bookmark them. I will also post it as a challenge later.0
