And so it begins!

Today is the first official day of our 3 month challenge and seeing the excitement around getting fit, I figured that I would use this opportunity to post some things to think about and remember.
1. Explore and use the JeFit app tonight. Really take a look at this app and find all the fun and challenging workouts that it has to offer. If you haven’t yet completed a workout, try to get started by this Wednesday. REMINDER: Proper Form is the most important aspect of any exercise.
2. Temper your enthusiasm. Having the prospect of a better you can be very exciting. This is a very good motivator when getting started. However, it can lead to major emotional roadbumps when something doesn’t go quite right. Start getting your head around the fact that the changes that you are implementing are the start of a life long journey and not a sprint to a magical number that you think will make you happy.
3. YOU ARE NOT ON A DIET. The word “diet” has unfortunately been morphed into something that you do in order to lose weight. What you are doing is changing your diet to achieve a better quality of life. This means that you should now be picking the kinds of foods that will fuel your body instead of just eating to get by. As you change and age, your dietary necessities will change. Start to learn about these and implement these changes. It generally means that you add things to your diet and not take anything away.
4. Let your actions motivate you and not your words. It’s far too easy to talk about what we are planning on doing instead of actually doing them. If you plan on working out today, don’t talk about it. Do it. It’s been proven that when you talk about activities that are difficult to do, you are far less likely to even start those activities. This is purely a mental trick that we play on ourselves. Once described out loud, our brains tend to think that we have done the thing spoken about. Then when it comes time to motivate ourselves to actually do it, it’s easier to talk ourselves out of it.
5. This is a personal journey. As much as we want to help those around us, our personal journey needs to take precedence. It takes a lot of mental and physical energy to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself. When you donate that energy to others, you tend to not have the energy to take care of yourself. Unless you have discussed helping each other out as a motivational resource, keeping your comments about someone else’s dietary choices to yourself would be a good thing as well.
That’s all for today. I hope it’s going well for everybody. Make sure you ask to be my friend here on MyFitnessPal so I can compile all of your entries for the challenge. I will be collecting money for the challenge at the end of this week. Keep on burning y’all!
