Have to Tell Work

I have to put in my request for work - but I haven't decided what I am going to tell them. The dr wants me to take a full two weeks, but that might not be an option....the other girl on my team just started Chemo, so its gonna be a big deal if I am not here. Yikes! I am on the fence with what I tell them too - either come clean with the weight loss surgery or just leave it a mystery...

By law, you don't have to tell them what you are having done. I told some people at work and some I am leaving it as I am having surgery. I am taking notes the week of surgery as vacation then I am going to work from home for as long as I need. I am fortunate that my manager is good that way. Do you have the ability to work from home?

I can work from home, however, I do tend to need to be here. I know legally I don't have to tell them - but I am pretty close with my director and a few of the girls - I just don't want them worrying more than anything.

I would tell the ones you are close to and tell them to keep it to themselves but work from home as long as you can. Some people I know had gone back to work the following week

Do you live close to work? After my first week I could have gone to work for a few hours, but my commute is 45 miles one way. Just the drive had me exhausted. I took off a full week of work, plus one day, but my work weeks are four days. :)

I told my supervisor, told her I wanted it documented nowhere, told her I understand hipaa, and this was my right. That way she was a little more flexible because of her own understanding while I didn't have to disclose to people I didn't want to.

If you are close enough, maybe you can work from home and go in for a few hours if need be? Really, the main issue will be your energy levels. The first few weeks you won't be consuming enough to sustain long periods of work, even if it is desk work.

    Good luck!

Told my boss yesterday and she was great about it and excited for me - what a relief! She's not documenting and told me to take whatever time I need and work from home whenever I can. She said not to tell other people on the team until im ready or never. I say it to her and anytime I can, she's the best boss ever!!!!

Yay! What a relief! It's the little things that make the most impact...
