Weight loss on injury rest?

I've actually lost 3 pounds in the last week, 2 days really. I haven't run a step, no cross training, just rear on the couch. I've tried to keep my calories adjusted so I don't gain while waiting for an injury to heal.

The weight loss is completely unexpected. I haven't lost anything in 3 years. I have been better at food choices, cut out near all gluten and that means my pizza consumption is zero.

Any ideas if it's a calorie issue while running (too much? Too little?) or just chance with the adjustment, trying to eat better. Which I have done before- but never lost. Or if I did I just saw it as permission to live on pizza and pies.

My diary is open. When I'm running I shoot for 1500 Cal/day... Not running- I've just tried to keep it 12-1300. It could be bad accounting? 10,500 calories worth?

Is this sudden unexpected loss a simple deficit? Or am I doing something "wrong"?

I need some insight so I can continue to lose!

No doubt water weight fluctuation could be part of it. Not running, maybe my body isn't holding water for recover and activity. I'll be anxious to test that out once I can run again.

    Thanks!

I heard once that your body can store around 10 pounds of water weight just for glycogen storage in your muscles.

No clue, but I'm down between 2 and 3 pounds on a week with only 2 running days. Yes, I adjusted the calories down after Boston, and I haven't added any back for running since the half on Sunday; but this is still more than I expected. I would expect to need to trim my calories even more if I were to have an extended period of not running.

FWIW, I actually eaten below my reduced calorie limit more days than not. I've found that after a few non-running days, my appetite has moderated considerably and I'm fine with the reduced range as long as I can control boredom eating and social eating.

Down 2 or 3 pounds after 3 years of maintenance sounds like one of those inexplicable maintenance fluctuations to me. Sometimes you can see the reason for a fluctuation, sometimes you only see the scale result and don't really know why.

Thanks @WhatMeRunning and @MobyCarp . since you are also down, I will chalk it up to water and decreased glycogen stores.

I got in some activity today. So we'll see if the scale is up tomorrow. I was so hoping to be less fat :disappointed:
