Bunions

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to deal with bunions while running? My sister has them and has tried taping them and some kind of spacer contraption for when she's running, but I guess it isn't providing the relief she was hoping for. I've suggested a proper shoe fitting from a reputable shoe store might help, but I'm thinking probably she will need to have them surgically taken care of.

If it's severe enough to affect how she runs, I'd recommend she consult a podiatrist who treats runners. I went to my podiatrist the first time for a stress fracture of the metatarsals, but he's corrected some problems that I didn't even know were problems. I've seen a diagnosis of bunions on my sheet from the podiatrist, but he hasn't told me to do anything about it; so I suppose the case I have isn't severe enough to mess with.
FWIW, one of the things I like about my podiatrist is that he's a big believer in seeing whether a non-invasive intervention will work before trying a more invasive intervention. In my case, that has resulted in never getting to the point of having surgery.0
