I bought this 4 weeks ago and have tried 12-15 of the recipes and really liked most of them. With my training volume I was having a hard time finding enough good food to eat to replace my calorie burns. Was getting burned out eating peanut butter toast & 5-6 eggs every morning & I hated eating extra protein bars, protein drinks or snack foods to get back my exercise calories. This book has made it a bit easier to get my morning calories back to even after a hard run. I also think my recovery times are better and I feel better fueled for my runs. If you have this book and found you liked one or two which ones? I think so far my favorites are the Mango Electrolyte Smoothie, Quinoa Fried Rice & the Nectarine Sweet Cheese French Toast.

I have the Racing Weight book but I have not bought the cookbook because I can't eat gluten and I was worried that most of the recipes would not be gluten-free or easily converted to gluten free. Since you have the book, can I get your thoughts on this?

I'll look again tonight but I think most of them are or would be easily substituted. My son is gluten free and love the quinoa fried rice and wasabi meatballs. There was also a ground flax seed breaded baked chicken that was really good. There is a really good homemade peanut butter granola as well. The french toast not so much gluten free but absolutely awesome, and there are a few recipes that call for wheat berries. If I remember right there is a section in the preface about gluten free substitutes but I'll make sure later tonight and get back to you.

Hmm. Are there tons of exotic ingredients?
I bought both Racing Weight and the Racing Weight Quickstart guide. The Quickstart guide was not worth the money. The example meal plan had a different meal every day with different ingredients everyday. It was very hard to meal plan ahead and tons of food to buy. I know it was just an example but I was hoping for more of an "eat this now".

I didn't get the quick start so I'm not sure what is in that. Just out of curiosity what do you consider exotic?

About 3 months ago I cleaned out the pantry of a lot of the boxed and processed food and began to eat more "clean" which lead to needing to keep a lot of fresh fruit and veggies around the house. With a family of 6 we typically have a grass fed half side of beef in the freezer and buy a lot of chicken each week so the bulk of the ingredients we typically have. A lot of the recipes you can interchange some of the veggies or substitute a fruit. I try to make a shopping list and plan the menu and get the bulk of what I'll need for the week at once. I do still find myself going to the store several times a week to get this or that, such as the wasabi powder or the wheat berries, that I wouldn't typically have. Both of these items will easily store for the next time and are relatively in-expensive. I have a feeling that next spring I'll start my own herb garden so I can stop getting cilantro & parsley every few days at the store. Might even replace the back flower bed at my house to grow green & red peppers since I'm going through about a dozen a week.

Yeah, I'm not even going to find wasabi powder and wheat berries here.
