Logging running as exercise

Fitbit users, I'm intrigued. If you go for a run (I've just done day 1 week 1 of c25k), do you log the exercise separately on Fitbit/MFP, or do you rely on Fitbit's step counter to log it for you? I would assume that I'd just let the step counter log it for me, but then I wondered if Fitbit differentiates between the effort for walking and the effort for running. But i don't want to log the same exercise twice!

I don't know which Fitbit you have but the one I won (Surge) will automatically log anytime I run more than 10 minutes (same with walking). I do however prefer to log it as a workout because of the GPS mapping.

I have the Flex - not sure if it does the same, I will check! Thank you.

Fitbit can definitely tell the difference between walking and running. You can log it in MFP if you'd like, but the calorie burn estimate will overwrite what Fitbit says you've burned in that time frame, and is often inaccurate.

And to inform your friends list on MFP that you are exercising - just make a wall post about the activity - with more details then would normally be given anyway.

If you are even going to use the MFP Exercise diary, put the comments in the Notes section too for later review.
But Fitbit has better diary for exercise I think anyway.
