Ladies and Gentlemen Welcome to the Prizegiving ceremony.
First Up, We have the Sprinters Jersey - The Green Jersey - this is based on the highest average speed over the entire Vuelta duration.
This Jersey was won with an average of 30.01kph - the only person to break the 30kph barrier this challenge, a very close thing between her and her riding partner at an average of 29.4kph... Our Jersey winner this year is... @m1xm0d3 - Congratulations Joshua...
Second Jersey is the Blue and White Polka Dot Jersey - the "climbers jersey" - based on the GPS logged ascent as per Strava links. This years winner clocked up an amazing 11,340 metres of ascent - Our winner is @lbchilds2001 - well done Aaron.
and so, to the big prize...
This years winner clocked up 1,225.9km, a clear 309.7km in front of his nearest rival.
Ladies and Gentlemen - Our Red Jersey Winner this year is.... @FitterBody
Congratulations Gordon, a damned good effort, late in the season - especially as it was all around the same loop of blue tarmac... 1,225.9km of going nowhere!
Second spot on the podium goes to our KoM winner, Aaron - with 916.2km and a close third from @jillyian on 905.2km.
Also - In-keeping with the vuelta's own jersey competition, I've been running a "Combined Jersey" competition based on points for the three main jerseys - everyone gets points from 36 down to 1 point based on their position in the three jersey competitions. It's a bit complicated, but if you check the logging spreadsheet, it makes a little more sense.
Anyhow...
Our All-Rounders competition winner is rider #314 - @BamaBoyScout
And finally, on the individual rides front, we have the "Adam Hanson" prize, for the people who rode the entire 21 stages...
This tour we had 4 candidates - @nerdieprofessor (203.8km), @webtracer (302.6km), @BamaBoyScout (790.8km) and our Red Jersey Winner @FitterBody (1,225.9km) - well done to all four of you. Sadly, there's no jersey for this one, though I think a large pot of chamois creme might be a more apt prize anyway...
And Finally - the Team Competition...
Finally, after a tough season in the other two Grand Tours, they came good for the Vuelta...
So...
That's it folks for the riding sections of this year's Grand Tour Challenges... It's been a interesting year, we've had some notable innovations - not the least, the wonderful CycLeagues system which has eliminated the whole PITA of you lot having to log every ride manually, and me having to key every single ride into the spreadsheet... sadly, that free time for me hasn't translated into additional "chamois time" but that's life... Big, Big thanks to Jason @jakess1971 for all his time and effort (not to mention a considerable financial outlay in hosting and server provision!) in coding this application and in making all kinds of tweaks and modifications to the code to fit in with my existing spreadheets - it's fair to say that without his work, it's unlikely that the GT challenges would have happened this year. Thanks Jason - I really, really mean this.
And, as ever, the real reason for running these challenges - you lot - it's been great spending another year "virtually riding" along with you all... thanks everyone for your participation, I hope to be back with you all in 2017

Awesome job again TBY, aided by Jase. Chapeau to you BOTH!
Well done all the Jersey winners & everyone else for taking part.
I'm more than a little disappointed with my contribution to the Vuelta this year; I really need to 'pull my socks up'; I've kinda 'lost my Mojo' a little ATM. Hope I find it again soon! Still, it was nice to ride in Spain during the Vuelta
There's just a ride or two left in the 'Classics' to go isn't there Mark? Looking forward to getting out there for those!0 -
