Hi am looking to start sl 5x5 on 1st October, am currently 10st 5lb but want to get down to 9st would this be possible just doing sl or should/can I do cardio as well. Also when starting how should I warm up as I will be starting my sl with the empty bar. I haven't lifted weights before but I do metafit which is body weight exercises. Thanks

    my warmup is usually:

    - ride to the gym
    - 12-sets of broomstick 'dislocates' to check my shoulders. don't push this, if you need really wide hands go ahead and do it.
    - 12-sets of band pulls to warm up back muscles. this is a resistance band that you hold at about bench-press level and then stretch with straight arms until it touches your chest
    - alternate those two until i've done at least three sets of each.

those are the staples that i always do. for less-consistent extras i usually do some air squats, but other people i lift with are much more responsible about lower-body warmups. they do figure-4 stretches for glutes, hip circles and front-hip stretches etc, depending on their own bodies' needs.

and personally, i like planks and two or three sets of glute bridges.
