Hi Pals
Just wanted some opinions on running belts and the like.
I have a Samsung S6 which is pretty huge and doesn't fit in the zippy pocket of some of my shorts/leggings when i run.
I am thinking of asking Santa for one of these:

I have also looked at Flipbelts but i don't think my phone will fit.
Help!
Thanks!

Leave the phone at home and spend the £20 on doughnuts? Don't you have a garmin for running stats anyway? And how often do you actually use a phone on a run?0

I have a Samsung galaxy note 4 (which is bigger than the S6 I think), and it fits in my flipbelt. It's tight, but it fits.
I don't know if I'd trust having something held to me by magnets though, but that's just me.0 -

I know, but it's pretty unlikely. I've never been in a situation on a run where I'd have needed a phone and I've been running nearly every day for years, since before I even *had* a phone (late adopter). In fact, the only time I've ever taken one on a run was the day I'd had a job interview and was waiting for a call!0 -
Might be unlikely that you'd need it, but if you did, you'd be pretty darn glad you had it! I'm with you, OP...I always have my phone for safety reasons. I have a Samsung Galaxy s7 Edge and it fits in my flipbelt and my spibelt.0

I always take my I-Phone;
it plays my running music,
Health keeps track of my steps (automatically logging them into MFP as exercise calories burned) and
if have a phone in case of emergency. Haven't had an emergency yet, but you know the first run I go on without it, I'll wish I had it.
Yes, my Garmin also tracks my run, but steps are a more conservative calorie expenditure.
I use; https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EI0XMO8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
I like to carry water, (I sweat a lot) two 16 ounce bottles, it can carry my phone, (with a hole for my earbuds), has room for my keys and gels and isn't uncomfortable to wear while running.1 -
Another vote for the Flipbelt. I've taken it on runs up to a half marathon and have had no problem cramming everything I wanted to carry in it.0

I like an armband better for phone purposes. I find them more comfortable. The ArmPocket bands are very well built and have been much more durable than the typical ones I've seen. Plus they are water/sweat resistant.

I use a SPIbelt with my Galaxy 7edge. Fits great, no bounce, stays put regardless of miles. I track my runs with mapmyrun, so yes a phone can be VERY helpful on runs.0

There are several valid reasons to bring a phone along on a run. Listening to music, taking pictures, using a running app, using an app that sends your location to a loved one (particularly useful when running in a race, at night or in below freezing temps), a way to contact someone if you get hurt, and crazy enough, to allow people to get in touch with you if they need to. Regardless of the reason and how superfluous you feel it may be, the OP asks a good question.
@TavistockToad I've tried an armband and a SPIBelt and I much prefer the SPIBelt. The elastic pouch holds anything you put it in tightly so it doesn't bounce around. I do put my phone in a zip-lock bag to protect from sweat and using bluetooth ear buds means there are no wires to deal with.

I wasn't being mean to the OP! just want to clarify that when I said 'don't you have a garmin' I was pretty sure she had, I wasn't being all snooty.0

FWIW I *love* my Running Buddy Pocket. I used to have a Flipbelt but gave it away because it constantly rode up until it'd be flopping around my waist driving me nuts. Additionally, the Flipbelt I got was before they started including zippers and even in the flipped and "locked" position, my phone fell out twice while I was running.
I have a Garmin and still carry my phone for music and "just in case". I have had to use it when I've gotten injured on runs and had to call a cab to get home, went out for a nighttime run and my headlamp died on me, etc.0 -
These are the belts I use most often (I rotate depending on what I am carrying and how stinky they are ).
SPIbelt: Weather-Resistant Performance Series - I use this when I carry extra gels
SPIbelt large pocket - Same as the above but without a place to carry gels
I also have a Fipbelt that I purchased somewhere other than amazon so I don't have a link. It has a large and a small pocket. I use this one the most since it has a great place to hold my keys.
This is the one that I absolutely hate - Running Belt 2 - I cannot adjust it to fit me no matter what I do. And when I put a large phone in it I can feel it rubbing me and annoying me to no end.2 -
I am goIng to check out the SPI belt. It looks pretty nice. I've got a Nathan and Amphipod belts, and they're okay but not much room for more than my big Samsung phone. FWIW, I generally don't carry a phone unless I'm running while traveling and/or I want to take pictures. Sometimes I'm on call for some reason, too and need to be reachable.0

I'm the same, I rarely run with my phone but then I live in a big city so there are always people around if I do need help.0 -
I know I am a little late to the party but I wanted to second the suggestion to put your phone in a ziploc bag and use wireless headphones. I'm not sure how much you sweat, but any amount of condensation that your phone is exposed to repeatedly may possibly ultimately cost you your phone in the end. I'm sure this is probably something you've already considered but thought I'd chime in since I learned this the hard way - twice. I now run with an old-school iPod shuffle but am weary at times going without my phone. I'd definitely go this route if I decide to run with my phone in the future.0
