Went to an actual running store

So today I retired my Asics I have been running in for about 550 miles. Instead going to a sporting goods store, I found an actual running store. 2 hour drive to get there, but totally worth it! Video gate analysis showed exactly how I ran instead of guessing. A good LONG conversation about my running, and past injuries, stretching, strength training and trying on multiple shoes to find the ones that should be exactly what I need. I was so pleased I bought 2 pairs. One for training, and one for racing. Both are Brooks (GTS 17 and cadence 5). Actually bought 3 pairs, but one was for my wife.
I have never actually enjoyed buying shoes until this time. I can't wait to put them through their first run tomorrow. A 9 miler is scheduled for the morning, so I'll get a good feel for how I like them once I actually have a few miles under the soles.

Sounds great! There is a running store about 90 min. or so away from me that will do a gait analysis (with video / treadmill) and have thought about doing it next time I'm ready for a new pair. Glad to hear it is worthwhile.0

I highly recommend giving them a try! If they are anything like the store I visited (Red Coyote) you are going to be very happy. Being helped by people who REALLY know a product made a huge difference.1
