Losing steps aftwr syncing when switching trackers

I have on tracker I where to work and amother newer one for casual and sometimes when I sync them to switch I loose the steps for the day and go back to the lesser one. I update the current one first which usually brings the other one to match when I sync it but occasionally it works backwards. Does anyone know of a good solution.
