Happy New Year! Did you make new goals for the new year? I sure did. I'm seriously afraid of failing yet again, so I'm going to work hard to stay on track. My first mini goal is to lose the 8 lbs I've gained over the past few months of not giving a crap. I don't know what a realistic year-long goal would be. I'd be happy if I lost 1 lb a week. As an alcoholic is to liquor, so am I to soda. I have a serious addiction problem with it, not even joking. I'm back on Sprite 0.
@kerryatoon, regarding staying away from soda like I did cigarettes...I didn't go cold turkey like you did. I definitely did not have the strength, willpower, or fortitude to do that. I tried many times but couldn't even make it one day. No, I used Chantix, which made quitting a piece of cake. If only they had a magic pill that would keep me away from soda. I've also tried the fizzy, flavored waters, but I don't really care for the ones I've tried. They have a very strong aspartame after-taste that I can't stand. Makes me shudder. That's why I like Sprite 0. It has almost no diet taste to it at all. Apparently, many others must feel the same way about it, though, because quite often it's sold out. I have to stock up when it's in or, or I may lose out the next time I go.
I'm also going to get back to weighing, measuring and logging. It was pretty much an obsession with me, but I did get away from it. Now the thought of getting back into it is a little daunting.
Last night I was proud of myself that I only had one serving of dinner. But then not long after dinner I was hungry. I immediately went for the Dorito's, topped then with shredded cheddar and put them in the microwave to make a plate of nachos. ugh. I'm going grocery shopping later today so I'm going to buy diet friendly foods again so I have better options next time. I've been craving salads. So has my 15y.o. daughter. Although we don't want the same salads. She got me Debbie Meyer's Green Bags for Christmas! I'm so excited to try them with the produce I buy for our salads. I hope they work.
Ok, all you lovely ladies. What are your goals for the new year?

Hello and Happy New Year!
It was a busy weekend for me! Now...the holidays are officially over for me, I have spent the day putting everything away....took the tree down yesterday and this needs to be back to my old routine and habits. The treats must end (well...the odd one is ok..) lol
I got the Body Beast by Beachbody workout for christmas. I am really liking it so far. I have done the Hammer and Chisel and a few other ones before. Anyway....just finished my workout for today and am starting supper. Chicken stirfry.
@kerryatoon - you are so very inspiring! I enjoy reading your posts, they motivate me and just get me going. I need to be where you are.
@AZLisaLou - so now the holdiays are over...its time to get re-focused and back into the game. You will feel so good after the first day is over! You can do this...and nows the time to get started. A new day, a new week...heck....a new year!
My weight is up since the holidays....I did indulge, and this is when I have my trouble every single year. My problem is stopping....and getting back on track afterwards. This year I am going to do it and not let it get out of hand.
Have a great night everyone!1 -
@maureli yeah getting back on track is hard for me too. I'm determined to do it though. We can get each other motivated. I like Beachbody. The one I like to do the most is Slim in 6. I'm not coordinated enough or in shape enough to do the more intense ones. I like Slim in 6 because it is very low impact, simple moves, yet still a good workout. I also have Pi-Yo. I'm too heavy for it though I think because it must have been my weight on my feet at odd angles that I injured my feet during the first time. I could barely walk for about 3 months! I'll save that one for when I weigh a lot less. It's a really good workout though and I could follow along pretty well. Of course I did all the modified moves. That's ok too though!
Well, ladies, I feel good about what I've done so far today. I dropped my daughter off at work and, although very tempted, I avoided the McD's drive-thru and didn't get a soda or cheeseburger. I felt very good about that! It's the little victories, right?? For breakfast I had leftover dinner from last night which was chicken, broccoli, cheese with Bisquick cooked into it to make it like a pie (which is why it's called chicken broccoli pie. lol) Then I went grocery shopping and got healthy foods. My daughter is wanting salads this week and wanted "good" chicken, not "dry tough" chicken. So I bought a rotisserie chicken, took the meat off the bones and got it in the fridge to add to the salads this week. I might have had the chicken skin. I'm not saying I did, and I'm not saying I didn't.... lol But I read that chicken skin is actually not that bad for you and having chicken with skin on it only adds about 50 calories to it. So I don't feel bad. Other than the chicken skin that was a tasty little treat (they season those rotisseries so well!), I had 3 fresh pineapple chunks and a container of Chobani cherry Greek yogurt. It was a delicious lunch. Now I have to make myself not forage for snacks and wait until it's dinner time to eat again.
@kerryatoon how are you?
Lol...I forgot to change the week number when I copied/pasted the old thread and made the new thread. I'm always messing up the thread names/dates.

Morning!
So yesterday I had a really great day....until evening hit. Ate perfectly all day, did a good workout. Then dh gets a snack out....leftover stuff from Christmas and that was it. A write off you might say. So....I feel like I am starting over AGAIN today. **sigh**
@azlisalou - good for you getting the salads going! I know what you mean, those rotisserie chickens are pretty darn tasty. And so moist and tender. And another victory passing by the ol' Macdonalds drive-thru....Very good!
So my plan today is....to make today a great one! Its got to be if I am going to get out of the post-Christmas-rut!0 -
Good morning ladies!! I'm sorry I've been MIA the last couple days! I do much better posting when I'm at work because I'm sitting at a computer. At home I spend my time doing other things. But I'm here to report that after a long weekend, one day of which I spent at home baking all things bread I'm back. I did well on my cals yesterday but my macros were a disaster! Back to it today. Tomorrow is a weigh-in day for me and I'm a little nervous about the effect all these extra carbs may have had. Well I'm going to be doing a bodyshred HIIT video tonight and will be back at the gym tomorrow night.
As far as resolutions.. I don't really do that. I am grateful to say I quit smoking "last year". This year I just want to keep up with the trend of making steady improvements and taking care of my body, spirit and mind the best I can. Here's to a new year! Let's do this, one day, one choice at a time. We got this!0 -
I mostly have had a good day. I went over my calories and carbs (whole wheat pasta dinner with too much garlic bread) a bit, however, I did NOT have any soda (2nd day) and I did not reach for any unhealthy snacks. I had a bit of a sugar craving so I had 4 Lifesaver candies. I had a pineapple chunk, and I tried Nut-Thins crackers. They're kind of bland, but you can have like 16 of them for a serving. They're very lightly salted, but big on crunch and taste to me more like sesame seed flavor than the almond and rice flavor that I got. They will be good for when I have an urge for chips or something. I've been back at weighing and measuring and logging, which is one of my goals to keep up with.
@maureli it's tough getting out of that Christmas rut, isn't it? Hop back in the saddle. You got this.
@kerryatoon hope weigh in day is kind to you tomorrow!1 -
Major victory, ladies! I went to Bosa Donuts because my daughter has been begging me for a donut for a long time from there (they're super good!). So I bought 2 donuts for each person in my family.....except me. I ordered 8. The lady looked at me funny because I guess 8 is not a typical number to ask for, and she asked if I just wanted a dozen. I said, "No, because I'll eat them!"
I had an apple with peanut butter for breakfast and it was delicious. Win for me!1 -
@azlisalou - WTG on the donut feat! Great job. I know exactly what you are talking about....not getting the dozen while it still may even be cheaper to buy more...just so you don't have to be tempted by them. Good job.
@kerryatoon - congratulations on quitting smoking, such a hard thing to do. I love reading your posts, they really motivate me. How was the bodyshred HIIT workout? I have a few HIIT ones too, they usually get you sweating!
I am off to work today, 8-5. Was so in dreamland this morning when the alarm went off at 6. I'm going to stop and pick up a few groceries on my way home. I found a recipe that I'd like to try...I think it was called Ground turkey and sweet potato skillet. Looked good and pretty easy. One thing I would like to do is to start trying new recipes. We eat the same thing here day in and day out. I have been eating a salad everyday at lunchtime for about 10 years. Haha
Ok, off I go to finish getting ready for work. Hope you guys have a great day!0 -
Good morning gals!
@AZLisaLou I'm glad to hear of your soda and donut victories! Just one choice at a time.. that's what gets change done!
@maureli That recipe sounds really good! It's easy to get in ruts with food.. especially when it's working and you see it as fuel. I love looking at people's diaries for that reason.. I get lots of good ideas that way. Pics of your dish please!?
My weigh-in was a bit disappointing.. my weight stayed the same @ 166lbs. But I'm seeing strength gains and endurance increases in my running so I'll take it as a good week.
My day yesterday was good, I ate well and my macros were on point. Exceeded my water goals and went to the gym. Here's my workout:
Walk/Run treadmill:1 mile, 13.5 minute mile! (I'm not a runner so this is making me happy! Working on slowly improving this.. decreasing the amount I walk and increasing the amount I run)
BB squat: 95lb 5x5
Bench: 65lb 5x5
Deadlift: Warmup 95lb 1x5, Working set 115lb 1x5 (felt great!!)
I didn't push it last night.. I had a date so I didn't want to spend forever at the gym.
Hope you all have a great day!

So no workout for me yesterday, I will soon head to my exercise room to figure out what I am going to do today. Maybe cardio, There is a plyometric workout in the hammer and chisel dvds that I have.
I think my main goal for today will be to get my water in. I will try to do well all around of course....but today I need to get the water in.
Sounds like a great workout yesterday @kerryatoon! And...yay on the date1 -
Yesterday was awesome for me. I was over 300 calories under my goal and a fair amount under on my carbs. With all that leftover I usually would say something to myself like "Oh, you have room to go eat something. A little more won't hurt." But instead, I stopped. Bad thing is that I was ridiculously low on protein too. I made cabbage/potato soup for dinner and I forgot one of the main ingredients--kielbasa! That kept my calories lower, but dang I sure did miss the flavor.
I really need to move more. I just don't have enough motivation for myself to do it. I hate sweating. But I also hate being fat. Which do I hate more? I definitely hate being fat more, but it isn't helping me to get motivated. Walking is soooo boring. I can't do it with earbuds/music either because then my anxiety would rise tremendously because I'd be afraid I wouldn't hear what's going on around me and I'd feel closed in. I need to do my Slim in 6 video again, which is a Beachbody video. They make great videos.
Oh today is weigh in day. I forgot! I'll report in later how I did this week.0 -
@maureli water is always good! And thank you for the yay. I feel silly being so giddy at 40 but whatever.. I deserve a good guy! right!? Hell yes!
So last night we went out to eat at buffalo wild wings and I stayed on course.. although i was a bit low on my protein goals but my cals were on point. He's a MFP'er so its awesome, he doesn't mind me doing my calculations before dinner.. he actually is happy I'm going for my goals. It helps!
@AZLisaLou That is an awesome feeling isn't it!? I say focus on one thing at a time.. I focused on calories at the beginning. Then once I got used to that level I started to focus on my macros more and more. I will say that for me if I'm meeting my macros that I feel more satisfied and seldom feel hungry. When I'm eating a lot of "fluffy", carb/sugary calories I feel more hungry. High protein is very filling. Sometimes I feel like getting 1500 cals in is too much to eat in a day.. I just feel full all the time. As far as getting moving it sounds like you have the solution with your videos that you already like. Can you just commit to doing it 2xweek for now? Choose a day and just put on your sweat bands and push play no matter how you feel about it. I have found that if I just put on my workout clothes and drive to the gym.. even if every ounce of my being is screaming NOOOOOO I always 100% of the time workout once I'm dressed and there.
I'm hoping to get the gym tonight.. depends on childcare. I'll report back tomorrow how I did. YAY WEEKEND! TGIF!!!!!0 -
@kerryatoon thank you for the big show of support. Hell yes you deserve a great guy! Was this a first date or have you seen him before? Nice to have an MFPer with you. You're right...I just need to pick a day and DO IT! Also, congrats for having quit smoking LAST YEAR!!! Very proud of you for being able to kick the crap out of that very addictive habit. It's not easy. I think it's been 4 or 5 years for me (I lose track anymore), and I STILL have dreams that I'm smoking and I love it and I inhale deeply and feel happy. Then I wake up and I'm so relieved that it was all just a dream and I didn't really do it. Sometimes I feel like I'm one major crisis away from going back to it. So, I still fight the urge, but it gets much easier over time. Have you found that to be true as well? It's not as hard now?
Ok ladies. I did the weigh-in. Ready for this? Since I got back on track this week...4.6 lbs down!!!!! I'm ecstatic. I realize that it won't be that way every week and people tend to lose more in the beginning. I'm so thankful though that it was such a great number. If it had been low I probably would have been discouraged. But now I feel like I can keep doing this. And if I can do what @kerryatoon says and just try for 2x/wk for now, I could maybe lose even more after a while.
Have a great day!0 -
@AZLisaLou I already commented on your status update but HELL YES LADY! Those are results and that's how it's done. Just one day at a time.. one soda declined at a time. You got this!
As far as smoking.. I feel lucky that I have absolutely zero desire to smoke ever again.. it actually makes me feel sick to even think about it. It still occasionally crosses my mind "hmm just one would be great right now" but it makes me literally shiver and is pretty easy to say oh no no no.
This is someone I've been seeing for a couple months now... but he lives an hour away so we don't see each other super often. But yes it's nice that he "gets it". We can make our choices of where to go out to eat based on places we can get food that meets our goals. We actually split a steak on our first date and passed on the baked potato.. it was like ding ding ding.. lol! Then we found out we have the same exact birth month and day. Weird.
Keep going Lisa0 -
@Kerryatoon so good to see you back too, lady!!! So proud of you for still being smoke free!!!0
