Made my first appt. on friday to go get my hormone induced mini goatee on the road to permanent obliteration. Does anyone have any tips or stories with this procedure? It doesn't seem like it will be a waste of money and I do understand I'll have to go back several times to get all of the follicles. Haven't seen much posted on here about this unflattering aspect of PCOS, please let me know if there's anything I should know!

I have been getting electrolysis on some hairs that sit on my breastbone for a couple months. I have really oily skin, so the first time I had electo I ended up with lots of clogged pores. I find that if I wash with a drying soap before the appointment (like Dial), then the amount of sebaceous oil is greatly reduced, resulting in much fewer clogged pores. Typically I will wash with Dial before the appointment, then wait 6 or so hours after the appointment, and wash with Dial again. Doing this I end up with virtually no clogged pores, and you can't even tell the next day that I had anything done. I wouldn't use Dial on my face, but some sort of face wash for oily skin could work.

Thanks for the tip. Got it too late though and I think I see what you mean about the clogged pores, hope they go away quickly and that they're not little scars, of course i'm nervous but hopefully it will be fine. Thank you!

I had NO luck with electrolysis at all. I was going bald on top and growing lots of chin hair. After about 10 electrolysis sessions with no improvement, I finally quit. Also had a few hairs on chest and a very boy-like happy trail. Finally got referred to an endocrinologist (this was 15 years ago before I was diagnosed with PCOS) who addressed the hair issue with Spironolactone for a very high (for a female) testosterone level. Problem solved almost instantly. 15 years later, I still take Spiro. I pluck about 3 chin hairs a month, no chest hair, no happy trail. I had to get a hair transplant but no new hair loss occurred after the Spiro. I don't know why, but the electrolysis was worthless for me.

I did 6 treatments of electrolysis and I really thought it was amazing. When I stopped (my mom had paid for those sessions and I didn't want to ask her to keep paying) I was extremely happy. That was 2 years ago, and I would say I have about 50% regrowth. I would definitely do it again if it wasn't so expensive.

Electrolysis never worked for me either. I went to about 10 sessions and I felt like it was a waste of time. I'm currently doing Lazer hair removal now and omg what a difference! I would say about 60% of the hair is gone forever and I've only had 2 treatments

oh wow. this is interesting. i went back for my second treatment yesterday and felt like she was just zapping the same hairs she got last time but she swore they weren't and that it was another hair growth cycle. She also said sometimes the hairs need a few treatments to have the root destroyed, so maybe I'll go one more time, but I appreciate the feedback, it is expensive but I'm pretty desperate. She had extra time in our session and did my moustache, even though I was only there for the chin, and now I have a moustache of red dots. I'll update again in a few weeks!

@JulieSHelms - did the Spiro stop make the hairs that were already growing disappear or just halt any new growth?
