Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has lost weight being insulin resistant with not going ultra low carb? I've been doing very low carb and I am miserable. I will do whatever I can to lose this weight but I hate not eating fruit or a dang English muffin if I want one. Your feedback is appreciated.

I know carbs are bad but my life would suck without some. I am having 1 bad carb a day (1 bagel or soy mocha etc). The rest of the day is pretty much salads and bean soups, some fruits like peaches, I am trying cut down on bananas (I am a bad example, aren't I?) . The salad have beans and chicken usually. I also am walking a lot. I hope this works out of for me as I am feeling full more often. I am on met, 500 mgs per day.0

Have you read the Insulin Resistance Diet? The main idea of the diet is to always pair carbs with protein and to never eat more than 30 carbs within a 2 hour period. I'm miserable without carbs, so this is what I am trying. I can't brag about huge success yet because I just started, but I'm a lot happier following this plan. I recommend reading the book to see if it is something you could work with.0

 Not all carbs are bad! Keep in mind its better to receive your carbs from fruit than white starches. I have taken a lot of nutrition classes over the past year and all of them are the same. Pairing your carbs whether its a side of corn or whatever with protein like lean turkey and adding in a free food (ie. lettuce, fresh green beans etc.) will help keep you full longer and still work on helping you loose weight. I am slowly trying to wean off so many carbs! YIKES My recommended amount is under 150g per day others are under 100. You will have to find what works for you. No too people are the same!. Good luck and God bless:0

I'm currently doing the Low Glycemic Index diet and I really like it a lot better than low carb. My blood sugars are better regulated than they've ever been (just had my A1C rechecked and it's 5.1%) and I even get to eat carbs that I had been restricted from for a long time (like vermicelli pasta- YUM!). I do monitor my carb intake because I know my blood sugars will spike if I don't.
As for weight loss: I am nearly 30 weeks pregnant (I see my Doctors every 2 weeks & am being closely monitored) and I weigh 4 lbs less than I did at conception. My Doctors approve of everything I am doing. Also, my blood pressure is perfectly normal for the first time I know of and I am not at risk of having to take meds for it.
I hope everything works out for you. Good luck!0 -
