I'd like to nominate a Patron Saint for our MFP group!

After doing a quick peek, I didn't see any reference to having chosen a Patron Saint for our MFP group, and I think it might help us, knowing that some of those blessed enough to be given sainthood shared in our weight loss struggles. So, after combing the web a little, I'd like to nominate St. Mochta, who was also one of St. Patrick's disciples. This is what is quoted from Butler's "Lives Of The Saints": St. Mochta (Mochteus) never ate a morsel of fat as a way of curbing his appetite for such foods. [Note: some liquid oils are necessary for good health.]
The result was that the Abbot Mochta lived a very long life, fabled to be three hundred years (but the evidence is that he lived to be about ninety). St. Mochta was a contemporary of St Patrick, who is said to have built the original church in Louth, Ireland and to have appointed St Mochta the first Bishop of Louth.
I'm open to other suggestions as well. If we know who this group owner is, and if they are still active on MFP, perhaps we could add this to the group description?

Yes, I saw her too. Maybe we could add both? That way if any men wish to join the group, they have the option of a male patron instead of it always being a woman (that's my passive observation on any Christian group, they tend to focus on the women and kinda leave the men out. especially when it comes to weight loss and body image). I'm going to make some inquires about St. Mochta to perhaps get a better understanding of who he was. Being an early Saint, there's not going to be a whole lot of information out there, but perhaps we could be inspired through him none the less.
Have a blessed sleep, and I'll 'see' you tomorrow.1 -
I like the idea of two Patron Saints... You make a good point about weight loss and body image most often being made a women's issue...1

The thing about Patron Saints is that it is hard to have just one, lol as Catholics we are very lucky to have such great role models to intercede and whisper our petitions into gods ear for us. I hadn't heard of the above mentioned saints but will definitly research them.2

I had hoped to find a good, reliable photo of St. Mochta, but because he was around at the time of St. Patrick, he's one of those more obscure saints that we don't have any for. I will keep my eyes open, as you never know when one will crop up. I also have a couple of sources I am going to e-mail and see if they have one they can let me use for our group.1
