Anyone else experience this? I don't know if there is any scientific evidence for weight gain prior to starting your menstrual cycle, but I am 1 lb up from last week and have been very consistent with diet and exercise. Any thoughts?

Yes this is extremely common to weigh more at that time of the month - I find it's about 1-2lb for me. Various reasons - one is that the hormone progesterone being high at that time slows down your digestive tract and leads to bloating and constipation. Another is water retention. However, it isn't fat gain if you haven't overeaten, and it will sort itself out during your period (ever found you poo a lot more during the first couple of days on?). I don't even weigh myself that week as it is depressing - I wait till 2 days into my cycle.

Rutterkr has hit the nail on the head about the why.... but I still hate it. I had forgotten about it, as I haven't had a period since August 2015 (I've got a nursing 9 month old) but I just started my first period today, and realized that explains why my weight refused to lower this week, even though I've been spot on with my calorie goals... makes total sense now!
