Hello,

I'm simply posting this out of curiosity .. I'm a Fitbit user but I want to know if anyone has done any "calculations" via garmin with a chest strap? I want to know if there is true difference of caloric calculations of daily burn between the 2?

Garmin does use different formula for HR-based calorie burn estimate. Theirs relies more on amount of workouts weekly with finer levels, Fitbit tries to get a decent resting-HR for use in theirs, similar to what Polar does.

But that's only during exercise - for both.

Daily activity is attempted to do without use of HR because it's not a decent estimate of calorie burn below exercise level.
Fitbit attempts to figure out your daily resting and top of daily activity before it starts kicking into HR-based calorie burn. During the learning weeks that can fail, and people have gotten inflated calorie burn merely walking at daily pace, because their HR went higher than expected.

Both use steps and distance and pace and weight for more accurate daily calorie burn - so accuracy of seeing steps - and estimating dynamic distance, is the difference.
Some models even use the same chipsets so output results are the same for them to do their own math with.
