Hi all,

The Ragnar relay race is coming to the UK, yaay!
I would really love to do it as I watched the documentary on Netflix and was totally amazed by it.
I'm looking for advice from anyone that has done it before, was it fun? not fun? challenging? did you find it easy getting a team together? I'd be grateful for any words of wisdom that anyone can give!

A bit about me, I'm 40 and have raced 5k/10k and half marathon. On a decent day I do between 8.57 to 9.30 minute mile and 10.30/11 minute mile on a slow long run. Not the fastest but I do my best and loosing weight has helped.

I'm not a member of a running club but my sister runs so I would do it with her, just have to find 8 more people now..

Thanks in advance!
Nat

I'll let you know in about 3 months :)

I am running my first one in June (Ragnar PA). Since we are part of a very large running group, we were able to get 2 teams together (plus at least 2 others formed from the same group). YMMV.

    Which documentary did you watch?

    Cool thanks!

I think I should join a group, I just need to sort out childcare..

The documentary was called from fat to finish line. It was mostly people who had lost lots of weight and decided to take part in the Ragnar. I also saw lots about it on youtube.

Hope it goes well for you and I can't wait to hear all about it!

I watched Fat to Finish. Great documentary. It really gives you a sense of the race as well as the story of the folks in it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, it was really nice to hear why people had decided to do it and it wasn't just super fit people so it gave me the confidence to want to do it!

Are you still thinking about running the Ragnar Relay? I ran my first one this weekend. I had a great time!

Hi! I still want to do it. Its the first one here in the UK and has been popular so places are filling fast.

So you enjoyed it, was challenging and did you cope ok with the lack of sleep??

Yes, I had fun and I will be doing it again. I managed to get a couple hours sleep in between stages and another 30-45 minutes in the van the next day. While not ideal, it was enough. The biggest challenge was getting enough food to perform. Next time I will use gels and probably bring bagels.

Cool, thanks for the info. I think I'm going to sign up, I just have to get the rest of the team!

When is your UK Ragnar? I ran one for the first time in May, and am excited to do a trail Ragnar this September!

The UK one is in September but unfortunately I couldn't get the team together as people were interested but then dropped out for various reasons. I might go along to cheer people on though as the route is not too far from where i live. How did your Ragnar go in May?

I am doing the Bourbon Chase here in the US in October. I am getting very excited for it.
