Sold the Beetle, bought a Jeep

My 1973 Super Beetle has been giving me a LOT of problems as of late and, while putting in new axles, I noticed a disturbing amount of rust on the front frame connector. This is something that would need to be addressed soon and, to do so, means pulling the body off the frame.
So, I went Jeep shopping.
Friday night, I got a good price on a 2010 Wrangler and they offered me $1,000 for my Bug.
Since the bug WAS running really well Friday night, I said "No Thanks" and walked away.
Saturday morning was a different story. It was running like crap and there was a burning smell.
As I was stressing about it (this is my daily driver), the dealership called back and had dropped the price on the Jeep making my payments $70.00 less then Friday night.
I explained that I could not make it in Saturday as I was too busy (that part is true).
They called me again Saturday night asking if I could make it in Sunday. They would still give me a grand for my Beetle.
So, Sunday morning, I drive the 30 miles to the dealership. I almost didn't make it but, with her last gasp, I pulled into the parking spot.
Much to my suprise, the Jeep had now dropped to $100.00 per month LESS then it was on Friday night so, now I have:
Air Conditioning
Windshield Wipers
Turn signals
horn
No rust (frame, floor, body)
and all kinds of other things.

Congrats! It's not nearly as interesting as the old Beetle, but reliable, comfortable transportation is a pretty damn nice thing to have!

The entire HVAC system has been gutted on my Mustang.....but when I drive it I'm having so much fun I don't care. No wipers either....rainX works unless it's a downpour...and the drag radials aren't great in the rain anyway

My "race" car still has a full interior, stock muffler, and A/C. I can give up time at the track to have comfort on a 3-6 hour drive in the desert to a race track.

I've got other fun cars with all the creature comforts. Any car I take to the track gets pulled on a trailer. If you race a lot, it's not IF parts will break, it's WHEN. And I'm not going to be stranded somewhere just because I wanted to drive to the track.

I am doing track days and autocross, but I am not doing wheel to wheel competitive racing. It sounds like you are going more full on with your race car. I also like to drive the car on the weekends and be able to enjoy it on the street. In 10 years, I have I had to receive a tow home once. And that was my own fault for not checking stuff better beforehand. Given that the engine is basically stock because I have to deal with CA emissions laws, reliability hasn't been much of an issue.

Sounds like a win for you on the trade. The Jeep could totally be as interesting as the Beetle, though. Jack it up and add a snorkel!!! I've seen some pretty wicked jeeps. Or maybe add some tracks. Then you could just run over crappy drivers. :-D

Right now the biggest challange is keeping my wife out of the drivers seat.
She now looks for any excuse to take it out.
I doubt I will be lifting it but, I do see 32 inch tires in the future.
The new jeeps will take the 32s without rubbing at full flex so no need to raise the center of gravity at all.
I also need to pick up roof racks for the kayaks.

Lol, it's good the wife enjoys it too. 32s would be just right. :-) Have fun with it!
