Gluten Intolerant Tests

My brother had a gluten test which came back negative but he is obviously having trouble with something. With 3 of us gluten intolerant in the family, I think the test result was wrong. He is continuing to eat gluten. He is a scientist and believes in the test results over his own experiences.
Anyone else have trouble with the testing? Any information about the accuracy of the tests?
