When starting, did warm up sets wear you out?

Hi all, I have just completed my first real A/B cycle of Stronglifts, and am up to a whopping 27.5kg (haha) for squats on my next workout-- I jumped up to 25kg on the second day cause I couldn't find a second 1.25kg plate.

I imagine that doing 2x5 empty bar would be pretty taxing on my working 5x5 sets since I have barely gotten past it as my working weight. What was your experience with warm up sets when you first started out? Should I just do them anyway and let myself stall/deload if I need to?

Thanks!

Do BW squats for 2x5 and thenif you feel you need it do 1x3 with the empty bar then your 5x5 @ working weight. Just make sure you go through the full motion in the BW ones, i.e below parallel.

And smash that work out! :drinker:

I do 1x5 as warm-up set(s) with the bar and then work my way up from there. You could probably cut that to 1x3 as you go up in weights and need more warm-up sets to get you to your working weight. For deadlifts I do 1 rep of anything.

If weighted sets wear you out too much as warm-ups, then do body weight movements or get on the treadmill for 10 minutes. Just because Mehdi won't do cardio for warm-up doesn't mean you [/b]can't[/b]. I know he likes to sell his personal preferences as "this is the only right way to approach this", but don't buy his opinions as facts or anything.

To me there's a difference between simply warming up your muscles and then prepping them to lift higher and higher amounts of weight, and you can certainly combine the warming up and prepping, although you don't have to. I personally do yoga and cardio before lifting so my muscles are plenty warm already, which is why I do as little preparatory sets as I can get away with, to get to my working sets for the day.

    Sounds good to me!
