Welcome UAC August Members!
Some of you have been with this challenge for months and some are brand new. I can tell you that it is one of the hardest challenges to stay with throughout the entire month. FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS!! Log every BLT (Bite, Lick, Taste). Stay strong and true to yourself....YOU WILL SUCCEED!!
Please feel free to share as much information as you feel comfortable sharing about yourself with the rest of the group. I look forward to getting to know all of you a little better. GOOD LUCK!

Opting in for a fourth month. 49yo father of one from Australia. Started tracking weight and food when I realised I was heading for obese for the first time in my life. UAC has been helping keep me honest and on track. Have now hit goal weight having lost over 15kg (30 lbs) and working on transition to maintenance. Finding UAC is helping create good, sustainable habits with the help of a wonderfully supportive group.

@craigo3154 is a wonderful, wise and caring member of our group.
I'm just Rick. I've been the group leader for a year or so. I'm a 66 year old grandfather who loves to ride horses. I live on a farm in the western suburbs of Chicago. Here at the UAC, we are dedicated to promoting the healthy habits of setting a calorie limit of your choice; tracking your intake of foods and caloric beverages; and choosing to do some exercise each day. The exercise should be at least 20 minutes per day.
Maintenance of my current weight and fitness is my ongoing goal.4 -
Just opted in..glad to find something I can start off slowly while trying to get into a routine5

Can't wait!5

Hi! It is my lucky day because I have been searching for a group just like this!
My name is Kim and I am down 30 lbs from this time last year. I was only counting calories at first because I was in physical therapy and finally got serious about working out again in Jan of this year. I have been holding steady in my maintenance range for about 3 months now.
I am a married mom of 2 "man children" (one a Junior in college + one a Senior in HS this fall. All my guys are involved in sports and training and I finally have time to do the same.
I am a substitute teacher for going on my 3rd year and I love the flexibility. I am currently on Week 5 of Strong Curves, I stationary bike on my mountain bike (on a stand), walk, run, hike, attend yoga classes, and I do have a gym membership, but I try to get in there and use only what I don't have at home and get the heck out.
My biggest issue with weight loss is I do great until the long dark gloom of winter hits here in WA and I go into "eat and hibernate" mode. I have my mind made up that this pattern has to end. Each time that I have had to lose, it only gets harder and I am too old to have to work that hard I am 48, but my body "thinks" it is older because I am a breast cancer survivor and later opted for a total hysterectomy at 43 to avoid any more surprises. All good health wise now and I suffer no effects of menopause other than I think I need fewer calories than I probably would have normally needed. Excited to join this new group!8 -
Hey all -- seemed like a straightforward and thorough challenge, plus a great way for me to stick with food logging for a bit.
I'm a paramedic that works overnights, have my whole career, and at one point ballooned up to about 190lbs (I'm 5'4"). My insistence on still being physically active at that weight really screwed up my ankles and one of my knees, so about five years ago, I committed to the idea of IIFYM, at first via the Weight Watchers concept, then for real real. I dropped a lot of the weight, am within healthy weight ranges for my height now, and have a short-term goal to drop 15 pounds so I can work on slow strength gains back up to around where I am now at 145lbs.
My biggest enemy is my work hours -- I wake up around 10pm, often stay awake and busy until 8am, and then take care of the station dog until 10am, walk home around noon, and then try to be in bed by 2pm. Unfortunately, because I work for a municipal service, sometimes I'm forced to stay for double shifts if people call out sick late, which happens more than I'd like -- trying to regulate caloric intake for a full 48 hours of relative wakefulness is a nasty challenge.
I stopped logging for about five months, and plateaued at 145.5lbs; here's to hoping this challenge keeps me on task for August!7 -
@jaysmom23 - Welcome aboard. No great pressure here. Fantastic group for building long term habits.
@abandonctrl - Welcome. You can follow what is happening in July at http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/121364-ultimate-accountability-challenge-july-2017 . Im sure quite a few of the regulars will be returning.
@getrealgirl - Glad to have you along. Sound like you have had a rough trot, but are over the worst of it now. This will help keep you focused and connected (It's done wonders for me).
@kaygeebozzz - Wow, you have a tough gig. Sleep is big is helping regulate weight and health and you sound like you are regularly getting short changed in this department. Great to have you along. I've found that consistency and knowing what you are actually consuming helps break through the plateaus. Eventually the body gets the memo and starts playing ball (or you see a pattern in what you are doing that needs adjustment to break the deadlock). Welcome and I hope the group can help you break through.

I'll sign up for a second month. Still quite the newbie here myself, but everyone here has been very nice and welcoming and it's great to read how everyone else is doing.
Rick and Craig have especially been really nice.
I started my weight loss journey last summer, lost 2 stones in weight (28 pounds) then took ill last winter, then found it hard to get back on track once I recovered and gained a bit of that weight back.
I once again decided to get back in gear, resumed my exercises, started jogging again and shortly after, found this community and the MFP to begin logging calories and sticking to a daily intake. The UAC helps to keep me on track and having another 2 stone to lose, the support and encouragement from this group will eventually lead me to my final goal weight.10 -
Hi ,I'm Jess I'm new to the challenge ,its gonna be my first so far since finding MFP . I lost bout 14 pounds last year bud due to loss of my phone gained it back, now I'm doing a"get back in shape" for myself. I am 5"3 and weigh 185 lbs ,now lost 7 lbs in the last week by doing intermittent fasting as of current ,I still consume all my calories in the day. I have an office job . Which sometimes requires me to do field work for to weeks at a time.
Hopefully I will be able to keep in check with this challenge and lose some weight before the winter is over so I can enjoy the hot summer in less clothes by the sea like the fit people do.
Oh in case your wondering ,its still mid winter here ,where I stay.8 -
Hi, I'm Martin and live on the coast in North Yorkshire (UK) with my wife and two kids.
I've yo yo dieted for as long as I can remember but this time I intend to be consistent, so I'm into the daily accountability of this group. I'm currently about 81Kg (178lbs) and think I need too loose 7-9Kg plus focus on putting on some muscle to replace some of that fat. I think this is doable before Christmas, which is my target.
I started about two weeks ago and have dropped 2 Kg (so the easy water weight has gone!) but this weekend is going to be the Atlas Music festival with family and friends and whilst I will try and be responsible the combination of alcohol and restricted food choices could be a disaster. So I'll probably need to refocus next week.

Hi I'm Loraine
I was born and raised in London England but moved to US seven years ago. My life did a 180, I was a successful career woman who had a PT 3 times a week and boot camp at weekends. I couldn't work when I first moved due to visa restrictions so I 'vacationed' for a few months. I got my visas but that mentality and mindset stretched out to 5years and I put on 70lbs and stopped all forms of exercise.
In 2015, I popped my calf muscle and was so heavy, I couldn't support myself to get around. I became bedbound for a few days and it was the wake up call I needed. Since then, I've dropped 55'ish lbs but I've still a ways to go and I'm struggling with the Vegas heat. During the summer, it has gotten up to 117/45 and it drains me. I'm a walker, so the heat is killing me.
I'm excited to do a challenge where participants are engaged & involved and having to do 20 mins exercise a day is going to help me widen my horizons!8 -
Hi, all. I'm Augustina and I'd love to be in this challenge. I gained about 20 pounds, two years ago, and I need to get it off.
I love to exercise, but my eating habits are my nemesis. I've committed myself to eating whole foods and started MFP, last week.
I am a nurse and on my feet all day--which is great; but at work, there are ALWAYS a bunch of snacks and treats.....,
It'll be great to record everything, and to hold myself accountable, while encouraging others! Thank you for this opportunity.9 -
Hello there. I'm returning for a second month (though was under a different call-name last month. My name's Crystal, wife to a super guy and mother of an "almost" 1-year old living in Oklahoma, USA. This group really helped me stay on track last month (about the time I started taking my health seriously again. Everyone really helps support each other here and it's a great bunch of cheerleaders...which is just what I need. Looking forward to a great month with you all!6

Hey, I'm Cassandra. I have lost 40 lbs in the past with MFP and a back injury almost 2 years ago put me into the "woe is me" mind set, and gained it all back. I didn't join any groups the first time around but this time I am finding it harder to keep to my plan. I'm hoping by joining a group like this that it will help keep me accountable and really in the game. I have been changing my diet and trying to be more physically active since Jan. I haven't lost any weight really (going back and forth with the same 4 lbs) so hoping having to check-in daily will give me the accountability I'm looking for.
I have a horse that I ride 5-6 days a week, but my goal is to incorporate additional exercise outside of horseback riding. I have a 3 hour round trip commute to work mon-fri but I still believe I can find at least 20-30 min a day to do some other type of activity (preferable the gym because I am done paying my "fat tax"). I am 27, 5'0 and 180 lbs, looking to lose 50 lbs and keep it off this time around. Excited for this challenge! Thanks for starting this group!6 -
Hello everyone. I'm Simon and this'll be my fourth month tracking and with UAC I've lost well over 70 pounds this year and still looking to lose a good bit more by the end of the year.
I tend to go on very long walks / hikes for anywhere between 1-3hours a day so I get a lot of miles in which has certainly helped with my weight loss aswell as keeping a steady diet going everyday.
There's a lot of encouraging and knowledgeable people in this group so never be afraid to ask questions or get opinions from people @craigo3154 & @RangerRickL are good examples of encouraging and knowledgeable people both have helped me in the past aswell as many others.
This might be my last month with UAC as my weight has been getting closer to my goal and I'm hoping to see a Army Recruiter later on in this upcoming month to sign papers and enlist as a culinary specialist which if that happens as I hope it does I'll be gone at basic and will no longer be able to keep updated on mfp.12 -
Hi everyone, I'm completely new to this challenge and very glad to have found it. I'm Sarah, a British expat living in Dubai and recently diagnosed with hypertension and cholesterol levels off the charts. I've been on and off MFP for several years with some success, but in the last few years I haven't taken things seriously and am now at my heaviest and most unfit ever.
I understand the principles of a healthy lifestyle but in the last few years I haven't been able to sustain them for any length of time to see the benefit and form good habits, so this challenge is perfect for keeping me on track. In all honesty, I've been mulling over whether I should even join, for the very reason that I am publicly stating my accountability and I won't be able to give myself any excuses - this scares me, but maybe that's a good thing!
I have a week's leave starting Sunday (the work week in Dubai is Sun-Thurs) so I'll use that time to get comfortable going to the gym and trying to get into a routine before heading back to work (desk job, long hours).
Good luck everyone, here's to an amazing August!9 -
Hi everyone,
Welcome all newbies and seasoned vets. My name is Dolores and I live in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Canada. I just turned 60 in June but I feel much younger. I retired from teaching in 2011 and keep busy with my 3 young grandchildren who also live in Saskatoon.
I started this group in April, and because I am an obliger outer accountability is a must( hence this wonderful group). I have lost 7.8 pounds so far; only 2.2 pounds left to go. My mindset is the best it has ever been, Thanks to this group. I am finally getting the concept of lifestyle.
Looking forward to a great August.

Hello to all-- I'm Paula. I lost a good bit of weight a few years ago, but I let it creep back on. Now I'm working to slowly take it off again. I'm hoping the UAC will help me be consistent.5

Hi all. I'm back for a second month in this group. I'm Shona, 49 year old mother of two. I'm Scottish but have been living in France for over 20 years.
I've been a yoyo for years but, after several operations, I realize I have to get healthy for good . @getrealgirl I have similar issues and need to get my head round the fact I don't burn calories like I used to !
@craigo3154 and @RangerRickL were very helpful in July - thank you both
Good luck to everyone! :-)6 -
I am excited to take part of the challenge!5

@shonat11 Hi! Feel free to friend me if you are looking for friends! I am open to all friends! My MFP is an open book~helps me with accountability.4

Hi,
My name is Frankie and I'm a student from the UK. This is my first time on any of the MFP challenge threads. My goal for August is to get back in control of healthy eating habits and get into a regular exercise routine. I am mainly looking to improve my mental health (depression and anxiety sufferer) and possibly lose some fat to improve my performance in this years cross-country season.
Thankyou so much for setting up this thread - I am excited to be held accountable this month!
Good Luck Everyone6 -
hello to all the newbies and regulars
This will be my 3rd month at UAC I love the supportive and laid back natures of the group members, as well as the wonderful advice
From June 1st - July 31st I lost --
- 7.5 inches across the 5 different measurements that I take!!!!
- 6.2lbs
A little about me
My name is Donna, I am a 44 YO mother of 4 humans and 2 cats I live in Scotland, Glasgow.
This is my second time losing my weight, I had managed to lose all but 15 lbs but then my hubby took seriously ill, I thought I was going to lose him, one serious life saving op later and he was in recovery for several months .... needless to say everything got kicked to the kerb ... thankfully he's fine now,
since then my weight crept back on and brought some friends.
Time to lose it all again and maybe a little extra ..
I have finally entered onederland and I am hoping at the very least to stay here for this month
My aims for August
-- to lose 4 lbs (slow and steady)
-- to lose 3 inches across the 5 measurements I take
-- to walk / bike 300 miles
-- to be in the winners circle
-- to motivate others in their goals
-- to eat no higher than 2000 in any day but to avg over each week /month between 1550 - 16505 -
Hey there! I'm Kristine and I'm hoping this will help me stay on track. I have an event in October that I'd like to lose some weight for (I won't be down to goal by then, but would like to be well on my journey.) This is exactly the type of group I've been looking for!3
-
Hi. I am Gus. Right now I am going through chemo, which makes me very tired. However, I would like to stay with this group as long as I can for the support. Calorie guidelines are not a problem, but exercise is. I have to start building exercise to better prepare for surgery in October.6

Hi all ! My name is Sheeba. I live in Austin and I am a stay at home mom of a 4 year old. I joined UAC in June and have lost 11 pounds since then. I was not so successful in July as I stopped after 5 pass days but I still continued staying under my calorie goal. Trying to get back on track this month. It is going to be tough as I am moving long distance and I plan to save my pass days for the actual move.
My goal this month is to stick through till the end and strength train for at least 2 days a week.
All the best to all and Congrats to those who made it last month !2 -
I participated in June and was very successful but was over a big event at the beginning of July and was unable to get the motivation to jump back in. I'm ready to enjoy a fresh start in the month of August!5

Hi everyone and welcome (back) to the challenge to all!
I'm a 30something mum to a one and a half year old living in the UK. I was doing well on my baby weight loss (and beyond!) journey and then it all went a bit wrong. So I'm back for my 10th month. I've just tweaked my goals in the mfp settings and it's cut my calories quite a bit eek but I'm hoping it will lead to some weight loss this month. I'll be happy with a pound at the moment! Helping me this month is the fact I'm a teacher and there's no school for the whole of the month! My daughter is still booked into nursery for 3 mornings so I can get some good work outs in. Hindering me this month will be my mother-in-law. She's a feeder and despite watching her own weight complains and then sulks when others don't eat what she pushes on them. This month we're visiting them for a long weekend and also going away for a week's holiday with them. I'm going to eat well. She's going to sulk. I'll try not to complain on here too much.
Good luck for a great month everyone!

Hi all
I'm Alyson, 43yo full time working Mum to 2 teenage girls.
Joined UAC in April and had a good first 3 months culminating in my reaching goal at the end of June. However July didn't go so well so I'm looking forward to a fresh start in August.
Love this group as everyone is so supportive.
My goals for August are to get back to my maintenance range and stay there, do my bodyweight strength routine at least 4 times a week and build up to a 10k run (I'm signing up for an 11k fun run on 1st October so need to get training)
Here's to a successful month.5 -
Hi all!
Back for my 4th month. Last month went quite well until I dropped out after a mini-holiday. Continued to workout and now back to tracking my food.
My goals this month:
- Work out at least 4 days a week
- Cycle at least 3 times a week
- Stay within calorie budget
- Hit protein target daily
Good luck everyone on making it a great month!5
