The Great American Prairie extended throughout the center of both Canada and what is now the USA. It was a vast grassland populated by the American bison, deer and many predators such as wolves, coyotes and panther/cougar. Today, only a vestige of the original deep rooted grass prairie exists in the Middle of the US, where I live.
Fortunately, I live near a prairie park in which there is an effort to reestablish some of the original grasses and flowers that originally dominated in the Midwestern states. I live at the eastern edge of the tall grass prairie that began west of what is now called Lake Michigan.4 -

Exercised?: Yes. Walked 5 Km in 38 mins (hills).
Calories?: Yes.
Tracked?: Yes.
Rained earlier today, so got out later. Still maintained pace. ( Thank you @pribud. Trying to pick up 3 minutes to hit 35 mins will take quite a while. Most days I'm glad to make sub 40 mins which at least I am doing consistently now. )
Wife seems to have hit on the perfect recipe for peppermint choc chip ice cream.
Managed to solder in a new VTX (video transmitter) into the quad copter without requiring emergency services. Even more surprising is that the soldering worked and didn't fry anything. Got to fly again too, much clearer picture with new VTX (took it higher and even did a few rolls).
@am_change. Beautiful pictures. Magnificent coastline (and little shade).

Thank you to everyone that commented on my day yesterday....x
@am_change - we don't have "prairie" as in the likes of the US, as we don't have the right climate, but the word comes from the French I believe meaning meadow/grassland - please correct me if I'm wrong here.
We usually call our open spaces such like this, grassland, fields or meadows.
@craigo3154 - that quad copter sounds so cool, lol. Glad to hear the soldering didn't fry anything and the new VTX is better. I'll have to come over one day and have a play and tell your wife I'll have a scoop of ice cream too, peppermint w/choc chips is my fav!
It's been another fun day today. Been out most of the day, I've only been in the house long enough to cook tea for me and kids, lol.
Had a 30km bike ride this morning, took some different trails that I hadn't been down yet and ended up doing a full circle (well near enough, lol) so eventually came back to the same area near the old colliery then headed off home. A great ride - loads of hills and some tough terrain.
Doing the same again tomorrow but I'll be walking it.
Took some healthy snacks with me, so stopped for a coffee at a cafe and took in the scenery, while munching lunch - perfect day!
Got back home, then took the woofies for their walk (7km), more hills and mixed terrain.
Sooo, today -
27th Aug
Exercised?: Yes
Calories?: Yes.
Tracked?: Yes.
Walking/Cycling:-
30km bike ride, walk with the dogs.
Total distance travelled: 37km
Total steps walked: 14,555
Total calories burned: 2157 - great burn today!
Total calories consumed: 1381
I also did a little experiment to see how many steps (walking only) I take in a week and how much distance I covered in that time.
Weekly total:-
Total steps:- 129,995
Total distance:- 82.5km (51 miles)
One of my goals for September is to keep better track of this, including the distance covered when jogging as well and see what the end results are in a month, just out of curiosity more than anything, lol.
Hope you've all had a good day.....xx7 -
Yes x3.
I took a leaf out of @cardio_enthusiast's book, and got on my bike as soon as I woke up. (I remembered to oil the chain). 50 minutes, 9miles, 530ft of climbing.
Last day of our family friends being here so we headed of onto the Moors for a gentle day (I wasn't the only one tired from our walking yesterday). We found lizards and watched steam trains pass on the North Yorkshire Moors railway. and I managed two 40 minute walks in amongst all that.
Again pretty active, and Calories well under.

I apologize for my absence! My brother has been in the ICU for the passed 4 days with a severe lung infection. Fortunately, doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
I'm going to focus on my family for now, but I've joined the September Challenge and promise to be back soon. Hopefully tomorrow if things continue to improve. Thank you for your continued support! I wish everyone the best on their health journey!6 -

Exercise: 3.1 run (had to swing back to the house cuz BNY tummy protested). 30 min yoga and core work.
Calories: yes
Tracked: yes
Was able to get some running in even though tummy troubles have been interrupting my exercise time. So bloaty I look like I stuffed a small pumpkin down my shirt! BUT I carried on and tried to not let this take away my goals and got away with it today. Hoping this flair ends soon!5 -
I see some have joined the September challenge. Where do I go to do that? I'm doing amazing on my program with the motivation from you kind folks5

Nevermind, I figured out how to do it. I was panicking there for a minute. Lol
@RangerRickL thanks so much for having this thread in MFP. This has been an amazing month. I only had one pass day. Feeling great and getting stronger. Thanks for helping me to challenge myself.4 -

Last night, I read the team member's posts; wrote a couple of private messages; set up today's opening message and then totally forgot to post my own results. I was ok yesterday. Calories: just under limit. Tracking; ok. Exercise: walking and playing outside with grand children for a couple of hours here at our farm.
Today, the grandchildren are gone. Calories: substantial margin below limit
Tracking: ok
Exercise: almost an hour of hand sawing tree limbs and brushcutting; carrying debris to a fire and related outside cleanup.
A nice and healthy day outside. The summer is waning.4 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes...30 minutes C25K app training

Bought a new pair of trail running shoes today. I'm sure they will help me run faster, and farther...isn't that how it works??!! lol6 -
@trixsey1 @marthall what fantastic activities over these last days. You will have us all coming to visit and share in the fun.
@conchita962 glad to see you aren't letting your tummy rule. Lots of credit for sticking to it.
@SimonsChange you are getting close to that mileage goal.
@pears734 prayers for your brother and hugs to you.
Zumba and 3 mile hike today. Tracked and calories fine
My daughter visited her lonely parents for dinner. She just started low carb so I cooked spaghetti squash. For years I have cooked different squash and both daughters turned those noses up. Now it gets requested when she moved out.7 -

I love, love, love reading about everybody's journey!
Ok, today, I got my mojo back. I figured out that I was in way too much of a calorie deficit for several days, so yesterday, I ate back all of my exercise calories.
And. That. Was. Ok.
I felt so energized, today. I did 65 minutes of a very intense circuit training and my average heart rate was 161. I followed that up with 1 hour and 55 minutes of power walking; cause you know, my partner was doing 3 hours of exercise today--and I'm competitive like that
Calories: yes, I met my goal. I didn't need to use any of my exercise calories, and I feel quite fulfilled. Hello, Sauvignon Blanc
Tracking: awesomely. I tracked everything, even my milk chocolate!
Cheers, all:-)3 -
@marthall, good week for you! Working fish & chips, champagne, pizza and chocolate cake into your calorie limit. That's my kind of diet.
@fightingthetide, good to see you posting again.
@RangerRickL, interesting about the prairie. Louis & Clark Expedition also details lots of people living on the prairie.
Yes x3 today, weightlifting.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. Dog walk and deep clean of the house. Friend from England arrives Weds, then my Kiwi cousin and then my step daughter, all within the next two weeks. Throw in a trip to Memphis and Nola too, just for giggles!
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes, today was easy for some reason?!
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes, it's the one thing I do really well, whether it's good or bad, it all gets tracked. You can manage what you don't measure…2 -
@RangerRickL I live on the prairies too; Saskatoon Saskatchewan.
@pribud Thank-you for the "woohoo" cheer. I needed that.
@pears734 Good news that the doctors anticipate a complete recovery for your brother.2 -
Pickle ball and a 60 minute walk (14,004) steps. Forecast for this week is HOT!! We will be using our backyard pool to stay cool. Pretty happy that summer is still here. ☀️

3 yesses today though not the healthiest day. Too many of my calories eaten were from junk. And I had a pounding headache for much of the day so I stuck with 35 minutes of yoga this evening. Guns n Roses is playing a concert at an open stadium just a few blocks from my house. I wouldn't say I was ever a huge fan, but it's not a bad soundtrack for yoga!
I'm a prairie girl, born and raised. @RangerRickL I had a custom request to do a painting of prairie wildflowers this week and hadn't noticed til then just how many of the flowers around here are purple and yellow!4 -
