Great hearing people start or journey stories. Thank you so much for sharing it takes courage.

This is from one of my all time favourite movies. (I have a cell from the movie hanging on the wall near my computer).

    tumblr_m8s6kfIi5U1qk82m8o1_1280.jpg

Only by taking note of the past, can you learn from it and do better.

I review my daily target calories and macros monthly to make sure I am on track (takes about 15 minutes). This way I set my compass for the current month. It also lets me see how far I have come and how much my past was hurting me (and how to avoid it next time).

This is why it is so important to track (even when you have a bad day or really don't want to). You do not have to share the data, it's for your own reference. But without records our memories play tricks and we forget. Without our tracking it is hard to set a good future direction (to avoid the "hurt").

To avoid repeating the past, how often do you review progress to set your direction?

    What changes have you made?

Exercised?: Yes. Walked 5 Km in 40 mins (hills).
    Calories?: Yes.
    Tracked?: Yes.

Couple of stops today to help people with directions, to fix phone and get stones out of shoes. Still 5km is 40 mins. :)

Was a race meet at the local FPV mutlirotor club. Good day, watched some great flying. Also got to meet the current Australian and world champion FPV racing pilot today (Thomas Bitmatta - { MultiGP International Open World Cup Final Race - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZV87NjEF14 }). Amazing kid, only 18, he really does fly as fast as what it shows in the video. Very down to earth too. Had only been back in Australia for less than a week after the world cup win.

Reflecting on changes I have made:
    - All but eliminate between meal eating.
    - Soda only rarely. Water by preference.
    - Bread products only occasionally. (just because I get better more tasty calories elsewhere)
    - Regular walking and exercise (no gym, no equipment, just bodyweight that can be done anywhere).

Exercise keeps the brain alert and fitness up (also my mood is generally much better). The other changes stop me from over-eating (or mindless eating).

All are simple maintainable changes that allow me to participate in social functions without worry whenever they arise.

@am_change. Bread is fine if it is in your budget.
@am_change. Love the quote. (I choose losing and maintaining a healthy weight :) )
@fitastic2day. Love the quote as well.

@craigo3154 there were some quote images that also had "choose to maintain a healthy weight" but the background picture wasn't as nice! Sorry, should have picked it for you!

    Exercised?: Yes
    Calories?: Yes.
    Tracked?: Yes.

Went on a that hike with my son today, turned out it was 20km, but after walking the dogs it came to 25km anyway, lol.

Been out in the fresh air for 6 straight hours today, I'm tired and achy - hence the short post today.
Had a great walk though, I'm gonna miss our little adventures out together when both the kids start college in September. I will also have to have a think about how I'm gonna plan my days when the summer ends.

    Total distance travelled: 25km
    Total steps walked: 34,604
    Total calories burned: 1323
    Total calories consumed: 1343

Catch up with you all tomorrow - hugs....x

    Tracking: everything
    Calories: yes. Under
Exercise: a 90minute yoga class at the gym and walking.

I touched a bit on my progress review last night. I changed my mfp settings to aim for 2 pounds a week as although I was eating under the calorie limit that had been set for a pound a week loss it had stopped working for me. I wish I'd changed it sooner as I'm losing again now. It's definitely more motivating to keep going when the scale is moving.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

    What's my WHY?
I retired from teaching 7 years ago and slowly put on 10 pounds. I am 5'3" and was always quite slim but the extra 10 pounds just made me feel gross/unattractive.

The lightening bolt moment came in March in Palm Springs; our PS friends were all very slim and fit. I was struggling to be as active as they were. Also a friend stayed with us for a week in PS and I saw how healthy she ate and how small her portions were(this was the real eye opener).

So the "WHY" I started this weight management was to look more attractive, feel more attractive, be comfortable in summer clothing, and be fitter so I can participate more with my active friends.

WHY continue? I like what I see and how I feel. Doesn't get better than that.
Thx @craigo3154 for the great prompt/question. This has forced me to reflect and reevaluate my intentions with weight loss/management.

I am pleased to say I have 3 yesses today.

My pedometer arrived today and I set it up then went for a short 1/4 mile walk and manually counted my steps (525) so that I could set my stride length (at that allows the pedometer to measure my distance) its not perfect its was only £7 thing but I thought it would be interesting to see how many steps I take. you here so many people talking about steps and it annoys me that I don't know lol

note to self thou - take it off when you get on the bike as it counts me peddling as steps lol .. oops!

I review weekly and monthly I like to avg my calories over time, as I made the mistake before of eating way too low, and exercising into negative numbers ... so I have to keep on top of that to make sure its not an issue this time round.

I was a bit tired, today, at the start of my workout. Yikes, I looked and I've worked out 30 days in a row. Sometimes two workouts in one day. I have a bad habit of going overboard, so I did an 'abbreviated' for me workout today. Tomorrow, I'll take it easy and just walk.

I'm in B.C. visiting my family, today. It's so nice that the smoke has cleared. Sad that there are still wildfires, though:(

Exercise: 45 minutes circuit training, then 15 minutes of cool down walking with light 3lbs hand held weights.

Calories: yes, I've stayed within my budget, even though I'm with my family and they make very delicious food. I forgot to pack my snacks for the road trip, but stopped and got some almonds etc to keep myself on track.

    Tracking: yes, I've tracked everything

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

3 yeses today. I'm pretty shocked because I spent the day rather distracted and didn't try to track at all. We're preparing for our daughter's birthday party this week. Running around like a mad woman at the moment. Have a really great night all!

I"m back from a weekend away.
Saturday, I got to be with friends at their lake house. I swam in a lake for the first time in years. I really enjoyed it. My cardio stamina has fallen significantly due to my just resolving asthma episode. Based on experience, it will take several weeks to bring myself slowly back to where I was when the episode began. I am grateful that this episode resolved in 10-11 days. The last event last 75 days.
    Saturday report:
    Calories: just under the limit
    Tracking: ok
Exercise: half an hour of side stroke general swimming with lots of rest stops.
    Sunday report:
Calories: ate healthier today. Yesterday was a gluten fail. Today, I"m back home and can substituted gluten free
Under calories limit by a nice margin
    Exercise; walking at farm
    Tracking: good

Great day. Spent it with my good friend of 30 years cycling around the neighborhoods in Cleveland. Put the bikes away and walked a mile to an art show, lunched on a patio, wandered around walked back. Tracked stayed under calories.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. Dog walk only today

Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes

Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes

How often do I review: As and when

    What changes have I made:
I'm I do not eliminate any food groups, I exercise portion control and serving sizes. I generally choose to eat clean but when I don't, it's ok, I track it and move on. I track daily. I hate the saying 'you can't manage what you don't measure', but I stick by it because as irritating as it is, for me it's true.

When I do go above my calorie intake, it is mindful and a choice. Around food and exercise, all my moves are calculated, if they weren't, I'd be right back where I was.

I also walk daily. A body in motion, stays in motion…ain't that the truth!

    Pass day #1

I really wasn't able to measure my food this afternoon/ evening. My guess is that I'm within goal, if I add my exercise calories, but I don't want to chance it--and I don't like using my exercise calories burned.

LOL! A nibble of yummy delicious food here and there...and that's all she wrote:).

I'll be home tomorrow and back at it.

yes x3, bare minimum on exercise thanks to 7 hours in the car, calories well under.

Interesting @craigo3154 that your comments today are about reviewing the record of your progress. I like to measure and track anything I can, and since this goal is my current focus I am reviewing daily. This morning was a comparison between the festival I went to at the start of my current cycle (Atlas festival - 4 days, average net Calories +440 per day) and the Festival I am just back from (Wilderness Gathering - 4 days, average net Calories -260 per day). I used one pass day (although it was close on two of the other four days) but this is so much better than I managed in July.

@trixsey1 "Total steps walked: 34,604" Fantastic.
@am_change "I'm losing again now.", Well done.
@fourathomej "Pretty sure I'm around pass #8 or so...lol...but I'm getting back to life tomorrow..." Great, get back into the swing of things.

Exercise Yes busy day. Had to walk around driveway to get my step in before bedtime. I have a treadmill but it is in the spare room above the master bedroom where my husnand sleeps. He goes to bed early I stay up late so have to improvise. Ended up with 22 active minutes plus mde my goal steps. It wasn't pretty but was happy to meet goal.

    Calories. Yes
Had finger food at wedding reception. Just had a few shrimp and some pork meat and a few grean beans. Avoided the dips and crackers. Stayed within goal. Very happy with my choices

Tracked. Yes being honest and keeping track keps me on her I need to be!!

    August 20 Pass #4

I've passed out of the Winner's Circle, but I'm not gone! I took the weekend "off" and just had ME time. Although I didn't go over calories, and still got my exercise in, I didn't actually track my calories. I needed a mental break from some recent overloads and it felt really good. I was pleased that I didn't give in to any tempting treats or other temptations (like alcohol!). Onward! :)
