What are you doing to exceed your comfort zone?
My testimonial is that I never wanted to lead this group. When it was abandoned, I wanted someone else to do something. When no one did, I did. Thanks to each of you...I am so glad that I did.12 -
August 18
Exercised?: Yes. Walked 5 Km in 39 mins (hills).
Calories?: Yes.
Tracked?: Yes.
Love the saying of "life begins at the end of your comfort zone". I've learned to live by a realisation that if I am too comfortable, I am not progressing (or learning). My biggest leaps forward have been when I have launched off from a comfortable position into the direction of the unknown. (Like speaking at conferences, teaching technical computer courses, travelling to a fulfil a contract in Sao Paulo, Brazil when I didn't speak any Portuguese, etc..)
As an extreme INTJ, even commencing participation in UAC (back in June) was outside my comfort zone.
Less exciting day today. Good speed, not a PB (I think), but very close. Felt comfortable though (and places where I felt I could improve even more ). Would like to get sub 35mins for that 5km walk (next goal). But I estimate that will take at least another month. Need to work on increased cadence (both uphill and downhill).
Fortunately, no places that hurt after yesterdays 2 km soaked run. But I know I am not conditioned (or equiped) for long runs yet.
Hopefully get a chance to fly my new toy this weekend.
@trixsey1. Good to get the sleep. It is so important. Glad shep seems better. Your exercise load is impressive. If you hate push ups, then maybe you are doing too many of them. Work up to it slowly and have enough rest days in between (min 2 days). Pushing to the point where the arms shake is how you build strength though (which is a good thing as long as you also rest). Well done.
@am_change. Glad you are enjoying the gym. Hopefully this is something you may like to keep doing. Best exercise is one you enjoy doing.
@Slimpossible007. Hope you fell better soon. Great job doing what you can.
@RangerRickL. Good luck helping with your friends law firm. Hope they appreciate the help.
@fourathomej. Glad you finally seem to be on the mend. That's great news.
@LoraineGB. Cute bunny. Great NSV of being light, pain free and being able to walk the dogs.

I just posted this on my wall but thought it would be good here also ...
Today marks exactly 100 days on my new lifestyle.
I have "dieted" in the past and lost weight but, this time round it feels different, I am changing my life to be healthier one, Since re starting 100 days ago I haven't felt hungry, I haven't felt like I am missing out on anything and I have always been satisfied.
I have learned that I can eat what I want as long as I account for it and eat calorific foods in moderation, I can even have alcoholic drink when I want again as long as I account for it and alter my day to allow for it.
Lessons I still need to learn.
I must get used to water
I must find exercise that I truly enjoy and want to repeat.
Already I have lost almost 14 lbs and over 14 inches (across 5 measurements I take) If I can do that again over the next 100 days I will be officially out of the obese bracket.
My average calories in over the 100 days has been 1566
My average calories after exercise (if you can believe the inflated numbers) is 1182 and I have lost approximately 1lb and 1 inch a week .. Very happy with these results and heres to the next 100 days
have a great weekend everyone stay true to yourself and fight for your goals!12 -
@Slimpossible007 What an awesome testimony to doing things right!. Especially sticking with your plan with some illness and injury. A solid steady loss is the way to go! I SO hope you find an activity you enjoy. I know thru the challenges you are doing a variety of things.
@RangerRickL continuing to post is out of my comfort zone. I am not a social media person!5 -

@LoraineGB - Great NSV! lovely piccie of the bunny too.
@Sandera2 - Good on you for staying on track and not throwing in the towel despite your day. Well done to you.
@conchita962 - It must have been pretty scary hun, nonetheless. Glad it's nothing more serious, although whiplash is not pleasant one bit. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
@RangerrickL - How are you today Rick, asthma any better? How did things go with your horse?
@Slimpossible007 - You're doing great sweetie. Love your words at the end of your post there
Sooo....
Today (18th Aug).
Exercised?: Yes
Calories?: Yes.
Tracked?: Yes.
Workouts:-
40min jog this morning.
Walking:-
Woodland walk with the woofies (say that 5 times fast, lol)
Not a very good day today regarding food. Had breakfast with a mate this morning, was running late to meet him, so text'd him to order for me as he had to get back for work so we had a limited window and I was only 10mins from the cafe.
Told him I'll have whatever he was having, turned out to be a full English breakfast!
I think I gained a few pounds by just looking at it, let alone eating it! lol!
Logged it all in when I got back home, and it came to a staggering 872 calories. Well it's as near as possible anyway!!
My meals don't usually go over 350 calories, so it was a bit of a shock to my stomach I think. It's laid a bit heavy and I haven't felt right all day, lol.
Had a light evening meal, but with that, the breakfast and the beverages for the day has put me well over my daily limit. I still have 627 exercise calories remaining, but if I hadn't had that run this morning I think I'd be taking a pass day.
I'm sure I'll burn it off tomorrow though as I'm on a 30km bike ride tomorrow (with the same friend - and no breakfast, lol). Should be fun - just hope the weather is nicer than today.
Kinda took a page out of @craigo3154 's book today and decided to get caught in a little thunderstorm of my own, thankfully it didn't last long, and I wasn't drenched to the skin!
Have fun with the new toy this weekend Craig, (if you get chance!)
Hugs.............xx6 -
Yes for me x3. Exercise was cleaning and shifting boxes up and down stairs. Not exciting but worked up a sweat. Does that count?
In a rush tonight but hope you're all doing well :-)4 -
When I joined the UAC in April, that was definitely out of my comfort zone(posting my daily eating and exercise program pushed me to be honest and accountable to others AND myself).
Recently, I played in 2 pickle ball tournaments. I am not a competitive person, but my husband wanted to play in the mixed double category. I find that this has pushed me to play more pickle ball and to become a better player.

3 yesses today
25 miles (75 minutes) on the bike and 10 mins stretching all logged and within my calories

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. And it felt like hours-- super hot and humid today.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes. I ate at an Uzbek restaurant for lunch. Surprisingly, MFP had listings for some of the food, and I gave it my best effort to estimate the calories and amounts.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes, even the plov, which was new to me.

Haha.............out of my comfort zone.....well.......I have never been comfortable discussing my weight with people as it has been a negative part of my life for as long as I can remember. On New Years eve we had some friends over and someone asked for us to make resolutions, this is something I have a hard time with. Anyway mine was simply to be lighter and healthier this time next year. In january I started watching what I was eating and then realized I HAD TO DO SOMETHING! Someone told me about MFP so I downloaded it. All of a sudden I was discussing my weight loss goals and dreams with people. I decided I needed to do something drastic to get me motivated and stick to it so I posted on my Facebook page for all my friends and family to read. I had my husband weigh me each week and each week I post my progress.............I am a very proud person and now that EVERYONE knows what I am doing I am even more focussed. This group has helped me soooooo much as you guys have become VERY important to me also, I now have no problem posting on here is I have a bad day as I know you will understand. I also find that I do not slip up nearly as much. I think giving myself the okay to do so if I want has taken the desire to do so away. Not sure if I am making sense trying to put my feelings into word, but at least I tried.....lol
@slimpossible007 thank you for sharing your last 100 days with us. Looking forward to your next 100!
@Dosse1320 Good luck with your pickle ball, I am glad you are enjoying it.
@shonat11 shifting boxes up and down stairs is DEFINITELY a work out! WAY TO GO!
@trixsey1 You continue to amaze me with your work out ethic! Enjoy your ride tomorrow!
@jesscutedol believe it or not I find the more water I drink the less bloated I feel. It did take me awhile to get here, I now consume at least 12 glasses of water a day. Hope you feel lighter soon.
@craigo3154 WOW! 5K's in 35 minutes, that is quite a goal. I am sure you will reach it and I will be cheering for you all the way...lol...now think of that when you are walking, do you see the pom poms yet...lol Enjoy flying your new toy this weekend!
@RangerRickL I am soooo grateful you stepped out of your comfort zone in taking over this group. Hope things went well helping your friends law firm.

I would add about my comfort zone ... verbalising to others how I feel during my journey is very much out of my comfort zone as I prefer just to plod along on my own (but that's failed in the past, I used to calorie count with pen and paper) so being accountable and talking day to day to others about my failures and successes is helping me .. although I still find it strange
Sometimes I will write out a big post or respond to another members issues then I will delete my words again, so when you read them .. its likely they have been typed out and posted several times before
TY everyone .. it doesn't feel like 100 days ... and on to 101 I go
@pribud glad you found MFP, I was also introduced to it from a friend ... I hate NY resolutions .. used to make them but no more .. its almost like I am doomed for failure if I try it lol
@trixsey1 I can't stand eating out when I haven't researched it before hand or the calories are not written on the menu .. because we really have no clue whats in meals made by another ... I eat out rarely due to this (once or twice a year) and when I do I write the day off!

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Got 10 miles in today was a good day for weather
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
(94.96 / 140) Mile Goal
Sunburn hurts abit but all in all a good day
As far as comfort zone goes I've never been the best at talking with people but I generally will stop and have conversations with other hikers or joggers and always make sure to say hello now adays so I've stepped out a lot when it comes to that.7 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes...60 minute walk

If you pay attention to my exercise, I strength train often, but a year ago, weights were incredibly intimidating. Fortunately, I found a program that built my workouts for me. It introduced me to workouts for specific muscle groups, and I slowly began to branch out and build my own stength training workouts. Now, it's my favorite form of exercise. A year later, I am much healthier and 35 lbs down. I'm definitely happy that I left my comfort zone.8 -
Thanks to you all for posting about your comfort zones:)
I'm more of an introvert and tend to prefer working out alone and motivating and challenging myself.
Historically, I've been really hard on myself anytime that I've slipped with my food selection, quantity, and exercise. So, it's really out of my comfort zone to allow myself to be ok when I have a little setback, to not beat myself up, AND to reveal said stumble on MFP.
I am working hard to enjoy my experience, lifestyle changes, and this journey.
I really appreciate being a part of this forum and thank you all for sharing your journey.

Today, I decided that I wanted to do a brisk/ power walk for 13km. Well, I did indeed complete my workout---but---bad my decision was to wear my 2.5 lbs ankle weights. Yikes, I think that the ankle weights threw off my gait, so by 9.5km, I was hobbling terribly. I took off the weights and limped home the rest of the way. And of course, you know, I couldn't POSSIBLY SLOW DOWN, since I had a pace to maintain6 -
Hello again, UAC Friends.
August 17: Suffice it to say it was a pass day.
Today: 3 yeses! I'm having a bit of trouble psychologically since my Total Wellness class ended Wednesday. I feel a strong pull to slide back into old habits. So far it's been an all out war raging inside. I believe that getting involved in another meetup of some kind will help. I plan to join a line dancing class that meets twice a week for 3 months, but it doesn't start until October. There's a bicyclist club that meets each Sunday for a 10 mile jaunt that I'm considering too.
I know this, I've worked too hard to get to the place I'm finally at and I'm not going down without a fight!!5 -
...not my brightest moment, but lesson learned!
Calories: below my allotted goal. Hello, Sauvignon Blanc!
Tracking of everything.

Wow!! I love reading everyone's posts and comfort zone breaking experiences!
Today, I woke up feeling good for the first time in 10 days. Tonight, my breathing volume is perfect!
At my friend's law firm, I presented a class on marketing and public presentations. 10 attorneys ranging in experience from seasoned veterans to almost brand new. I gave a spirited 3 hour interactive workshop. I did need to keep my throat lubricated with cough drops. ( I did not have a cough, just fatigued vocal cords).
Lots of fun!
My report:
Calories: under my limit despite travel issues
Tracking: good
Exercise: nice walk near a beautiful lake8 -
needless to say I have been MIA most of this month. decided to enjoy my vacation and not worry about logging everything although most days I made very good choices. a few walks on the beach, some heated games of mini golf and walking around tourist spots were the most exercise i did. i did step out of my comfort zone by actually going to the beach in a bathing suit and not wearing a cover-up! back on track starting on Sat.4

@fitastic2day I hear you.
August has had me wanting to slide back to old habits. There have been so many distractions; 2 weekend trips to Alberta, window renovations(still in progress), getting rid of old windows and blinds(finally happened today), backyard tree removal(stump finally removed yesterday/sawdust everywhere), sod put in front yard 2 days ago(dirt/mud for the last 5 weeks), brother-in-law in hospital for 10 days( discharged yesterday) etc etc etc
I do not do well when there's so much going on. My husband is feeling it too. Sheesh!! Tomorrow I am taking a chill day.4 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? YES 45 min push mowing and 75 min outdoor bike ride
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? YES
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? YES

Exercise-stretch, Ab Challenge #100, and Strong Curves Lifts.
Tracking-yes!
Calories- under by just a bit. I was very good today after I woke up feeling polluted from eating out last night.3 -
@fitastic2day, I understand the pull of old habits too. I long to free feed. Checking in to this group daily tips the scales towards sticking with it.
@RangerRickL, what a successful day.
Yes x 3 for me today. One hour steep hilled hike with dog.
As far as comfort zone goes, I need to allow myself to rest within it. Not get out of it. I'm usually pushing, dissatisfied with myself and uncomfortable. Allowing myself to just be, would be growth for me.5 -
Yes x3 today. Just barely. A day of driving and settling in and visiting. No exercise to be seen... but the in laws headed to bed a bit earlier than usual and I refused to take a pass day over not being active. I'd rather it be for eating a huge, delicious slice of cheesecake or something worth it! So I got in 20 minutes of a circuit style workout.
As far as comfort zones... I'm an introvert and prefer to fade back and blend in. I'd prefer to lurk and just listen so participating in this is a push, but a good one! Another one that I'm both terrified of and excited for is a trip I am planning for the spring. I'm hoping to take my 8 year old daughter to Eastern Africa to do some volunteer work. That will be quite the stretch... But a life changing kind of step out of my comfort zone!3 -
Do something every day that scares you!
I went to dance aerobics today. I'd thought it might be like zumba (pretty straight forward to copy) but the teacher didn't have the affiliation. Nope, it was proper choreography and fast. The rest of the class had been learning this one dance for the last 6 weeks. I was always a few steps behind the whole way and going the wrong way! Way out of my comfort zone but fitbit gave me just shy of 600 calories for it and nearly10000 steps! But no, it's one class I won't be going back to!
Well done everyone for all the life transforming bravery.
Yes x 3 for me.
Have a great weekend!4 -
