As martial artists who are also members of a WL and fitness website, it can be helpful for us to remain accountable to each other, and share training ideas.
Any time you participate in class, or practice out side of class, post here and let everyone know. You can write something as simple as "Went to sparring class... got my licks in", or get into as much detail on the practice as you'd like.
This post gets rebuilt every day, to remind us to approach each practice/training/class with a fresh perspective:
- It doesn't matter how hard you worked yesterday... what matters is what you do today.

Sunday morning Black Belt class- 90 minutes of sparring... With equipment and no-equipment both... this was the first time I got to fight with my new head gear. It was hot, but I can live with it.
I am still feeling the effects of this darn cold which really seemed to take a lot of my energy, but overall I did alright. I managed to kick all of my opponents in the head at least a few times.
Two interesting things happened today:
1) One of the 1st dan was complaining to me that it was very difficult to get past my guard, because "you are so fast!" - which is strange, because I really felt like I was moving much slower than normal today thanks to just not having much energy.
Nice for my ego.... somehow I still managed to fit my big head through the door to get out. LOL
2) Two other students noticed my weight loss, wanted to know how I did it, and how much I've lost etc... and they actually listened with earnest - both are middle aged black belts... and I'm sure everyone has seen what can happen to middle aged black belts! Well, neither of these guys are super out of shape, as we all take fitness fairly seriously, but they both are carrying a little extra weight and it is impacting their performance. This reminded me why I like the company of martial artists - they didn't just ask and not really care about the answer or get that "yeah I won't do that" look when I told them that I was calorie counting. If either of them jump into it... they will do it with earnest and commitment, I am sure.2 -
It's rest day today (which I struggle with) and feeling a bit stiff after long run day yesterday. So going to loosen myself up with some kata, we have a regional competition coming up in a month so I'm going to practice my Pinan Nidan as a bit of a recovery session.2
