Native Tongue by Carl HIaasen

Described on Amazon: One of the most beloved novels by the "New York Times" bestselling author in which dedicated, if somewhat demented, environmentalists battle sleazy real estate developers in the Florida Keys.

The book promises to be an engaging mystery with a good measure of humor thrown in.

Happy reading!

    Good Morning Diamond Ladies,
Still have not received my copy of the book. My library system has only 1 copy of the book. It's located in the Napa branch, it must have stopped for a glass of vino. Have either of you started the book? What do you think?

I just got back from California. I left my Sony reader at SFO! The agony! I don't have the book yet, either. I'll have to find a hard copy somewhere.

Oh, I am so sorry that you lost your e-reader. That is really hard being on the road without it. I hope you had a good visit in California. Are you planning to relocate to Florida/

I still have not received the book selection. And they did not have one at the bookstore. Guess we are all on the same page  .

Is it too early to talk about the Sept. selection (since we have not even begun Aug). It is my turn to suggest a book and I thought I would like to take us back to historical fiction. A friend just gifted me with, The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. It looks so interesting and I thought it would be a good choice for the Diamond Gals.

    Take care and happy reading.

That sounds good; I like historical fiction. If that book is more available, we could swap it out for this month. What do you think?

I found Native Tongue on Amazon for $.01 and paid $3.99 shipping. Not too bad, I guess. I bought it from a dealer in Florida so it should arrive soon. That being said, I am more than willing to read Paris Wife this month if it's more convenient for everyone.

Naw, I'm still a California girl. My visit in florida will be over soon and I'll be looking for a new place in California.

You are almost there L. Good luck on the test.

Maybe we can wait until you finish your exam and decide on the read. I still haven't received my copy of Native Tongue.

I was thrilled when I did my laundry today - I found my Sony reader in the hamper. I must've been really tired when I was unpacking.

    Congratulations on passing!

I started the book last night. It's slow so far and no giggles, but I'm hoping it picks up soon. Hope I didn't pick a dud.

Do you want to wait for the book, or did you want to switch over to the Paris Wife?

Sort of between a rock and a hard place. Still have not received the book. Next week my son will be here with his kids and I know I will not have time to read. Began reading Paris Wife. I am liking it but it is slow moving and lots of my friends did not like it. Maybe you can read an excerpt and check it out. Don't want to waste your time. We can come up with another book ....there's millions out there,. If you choose not to read it. Take care, Diamond Gals.

I will check out Paris Wife; who's the author?

Paula McLain wrote Paris Wife; but you've probably figured that out by now. I've been having trouble sleeping at night so I'm snoozing during the day. Usually a good book will put me right to sleep. Did you look at Paris Wife? What's the consensus? There's only 7 day left!

A note from your insomniac buddy. I won't be logging in very much over the next week because of the visiting family. I will leave the final choice up to the both of you.

But I am still okay with The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. I will add a second suggestion, Work Song by Ivan Doig.

Back with you in a few. Have a great weekend.

August has been a busy month! I want to keep the group low-stress and a happy place to be, so no worries about finishing a book this month. Let's pick it up again in September with the Paris Wife or whatever you all feel like reading. I'm going to the beach!
