What do you think so far?

In the US and Canada, only the premier episode was broadcast free because every subsequent episode will only be available on CBS All Access (AA). As such, I only watched the first ep because I'm not (yet) willing to pay CBS their "blood money" for the rest. It really pisses me off that all other countries serviced by Netflix will get to stream it for no additional charge. I hope that CBS' money grab attempt blows up in their face!

Now for the show itself. Unlike all prior series, I didn't care for the opening intro visuals/music. I wonder whether they'll change it later. I give the premier ep a "B-" or so. Good enough that I'd continue to watch if it were broadcast or on Netflix or Hulu. I do like that they plan to make the first season into 2 chapters with a continuous story line. They did a half-assed attempt of that during the "Xindi" story-line of "Enterprise" and I did enjoy that.
What I did NOT like is their remake of the Klingons! This series is supposed to be set in the "main" universe with the other TV series, but they used the "Abrams universe" version. Allegedly they will address the difference this season, but I have my doubts. They did use a 2-part story in "ST-ENT" to give a plausible explanation for the different looks between "ST-TOS" Klingons and subsequent series, but I can't yet imagine how they'll explain it away this time.

As for watching future episodes, I think I'll wait until each chapter ends and they subscribe to AA for just that month to binge that portion. The 1st time would be via the free trial and the 2nd would be cost $6 (with ads), so I can live with that. But to pay $6 (or $10 for ad-free) monthly for just one show? HELL-to-the-NAW.

Still mad they're using the ST franchise in a ham-fisted attempt to hook fans into paying for All Access. I didn't even watch the premier episode. We're watching The Orville instead

    Preach on, sister!

I've watched the first 3 eps of "The Orville" as well. I'm a fan of about half of Seth MacFarlane's work, plus he got several people with actual behind-the-scenes ST experience involved.
The 1st ep was slow, but then again, so was the 1st season of ST:TNG. The final 5 min of the 2nd ep made it worthwhile. The 3rd ep was pure gold and representative of ST storytelling. I also liked that they showed that every ep won't have the "happiest" of endings.
I think/hope they've hit their stride now, but they have a fan in me regardless.

I refuse to pay for a show. Not doing it for HBO, not doing it for that. Too bad.

I haven't watched ep3 yet, but now I'm looking forward to it!

Sort of off topic, but I adore Seth McFarlane's singing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzVprkrNlT8
