Rest time

Am I the only one that has a hard time keeping track of my rest time between sets? Sometimes I get distracted and can't recall when I'm supposed to start the next set. I will be changing weighs or whatever and then have no clue when I finished the last set. Is it just me or will I get better at this once I better establish a routine?

For the rest time in between warm up sets I just kind of estimate. But between work sets I use the stopwatch app on my phone. Otherwise I know I wouldn't wait long enough.0

I use the free Jefit app. It has an All Pro's routine in there and I follow the timer on that (plus you can customize all sorts of stuff.) I also use it to track my stats with it too.0

Do you use the free one or the Jefit Pro?
Edit to add nevermind I just learned how to read0 -

I don't know why I didn't think of that!0 -

Thanks! I just downloaded it. I searched for an All Pro app at one point but this app doesn't show up with that search. Thanks again, this looks useful!0 -

You may have to go to the website to find it. I know they have more than one. I like it and find it very helpful.
(ETA: Link for Jefit All Pro Routines in database)

I may have used Cwdrake's, but set it up like Mr.mcj, where there are 3 days (heavy, medium and light). Exercises with 4 sets I added twice - 2 with 60 secs rest and 2 with 90 sec rest. Hopefully this all makes sense, lol.0 -

I think you misunderstood, since I wasn't clear. (I'm bad about that). I found a couple of AP routines. I have not played with it yet because I'm working on a final project for one of my summer school classes (how fun...not!) what I was trying to say was that I had previously searched the App Store for an All Pro app but couldn't find one. I doubt I would have ever found this app, so thank you. I don't recall which AP one I added but it was the one with the most downloads. Hopefully I will have time to play with it before school starts Monday. It looks like it may take a while to set up.0 -
Jefti's definitely a good app & they have a pretty solid web site to go along with it. I used it for quite a while, but I did find the lack of integration (e.g. with MFP, RunKeeper, etc.) and the lack of data export functionality to be irritating.
Right now I'm using Gym Hero, which does sync exercise data to RunKeeper, and does allow me to export my data in spreadsheet format. Even though RunKeeper syncs to MFP, the strength training exercise doesn't sync over, so it's not perfect... But at least my exercise data's all in RunKeeper, and at least i can get at my data.
So...
Jefit wins on:
1. More powerful / flexible app.
2. Better rest timer functionality.
3. Better supporting web site.
4. Access to exercise routines that other people have uploaded.
Gym Hero wins on:
1. Simplicity.
2. Data export.
3. Basic integration with RunKeeper.0 -
You are all so precise! I have been sort of winging it. :-) I might have to look into a timer as my weights get heavier! (I'm really naughty...sometimes I do my calf work during my rest time on the medium and light days. I'm sure that will change for later cycles as those days turn into what was once my heavy day.)0

Just set a timer to 90 seconds on your phone, or use an egg timer. I personally have a Gymboss timer strapped to my rack. The minute I finish a set, I tap the button and move around for about 70 seconds while I recover. By the time it's got down to 20 seconds left I'm going to back to the rack and starting to re-address the bar. Immediately, as soon as it beeps, the set begins and I'm off!0

I need to find a good timer for my iPhone.
Even the Jefit timer's just a pre-configured rest time between exercises, but I tend to do 60s between warm-up sets, 90s between work sets, and 2m between exercises. Would be nice to just tape the button I need & have it give me a 5-10s countdown as it expires.
Yep, I'm a gadget geek. :drinker:
