Calories burned, accurate or not?

So I have been using the wii fit as my main form of exercise for the last 7 months and totally love it. I really enjoy seeing how much progress I have made. My exercises are all Aerobic, the run (island lap) and the step aerobics (20 minutes...i add weights and do short burst high intensity steps). I get a good workout in...and always soaked in sweat when I'm done.

I was slightly depressed though seeing other people posting the calories they have burned doing aerobics or weight lifting and such and here i am with a measly 300-400 calories burned for an hour of aerobics on the wii fit plus. Today, out of curiosity, I searched for an online calorie burner and entered in the information of 40 minutes jogging, 10 minutes low impact step aerobics (which really mine is more intense with the weights and short bursts) and 10 minutes general weight lifting. The amount of calories it said I burned was over 600. I like this number much better! But, cant help but wonder which is correct? the Wii Fit Plus has my weight and height and the remote and board which tracks everything. Is it possible I'm burning more calories then what it is telling me do you think?

Any chance of monitoring your heart rate while you're doing it? That would be most accurate. But if you're in the right zone with your heart rate to be aerobic, and you're doing these to the point of sweating, I would try a few different online calculators and then take the average of their results.

It's really all about averages and guesses ...
