Anyone can do Strong Lifts. And it's great to incorporate lifting while you are losing weight. It may be harder in a deficit but it's definitely do-able.
Have you lifted before or do you have someone who can show you correct form on all the lifts?1 -
put it this way - there's nothing i know of about obesity that would stop you doing sl. and you're already strong, compared with people who aren't just think of how much weight you want to lose and then give yourself credit for the fact that you 'squat' that much every time you get up and down from a chair.
i don't know if i can promise it will help you lose weight. i did get into lifting because of that 'muscle burns more calories!' notion, but for me it goes better if i just do the strength work for the sake of the strength, and don't count on it to take care of the excess-fat thing.1 -
Hi there.
When I did stronglifts, it was when I was obese. I started lifting a few years ago, when I weighed about 200 lbs and I'm only 4'11". What lifting helped me do was to have something to focus on aside from the scale. The calories are what will help with the losing weight part and I didn't really factor in calorie burn from lifting for the most part, though tried not to have a steep deficit. Even now I do lift in a deficit a good part of the time and still manage to increase strength so it's certainly plausible on many levels to do a strength focused program.
So, sure you can. And it is fun when you reach goals. That first time getting the deadlift with 45 plates, then getting 225 (two plates on each side) is great. Or when you get 135 on squats, or body weight and even getting to bench 100 lbs. It gives other elements and goals to the journey.6
