Adjustment calories are only given if Fitbit says you burned more than MFP estimated you'd burn already.
If the 5000 steps cause a distance of not much, and therefore not much calorie burn, then you didn't burn perhaps that much.
That is around the sedentary level depending on what kind of distance 5000 means (grocery store shuffle or exercise running steps?).
So if you happen to have MFP set to a correct Lightly-Active already, you may not have burned more than what was already expected.
So you wouldn't have received an adjustment.
Case could be you actually burned less than MFP was expecting - if you enable Negative calorie adjustment - you could have received one.
Or - the syncing isn't working for you.
Did a step report show up on MFP?
Did a meal synopsis show up on Fitbit?1
