Made To Crave: Introduction ~ Finding Your "Want To"

I had intended to start our discussion of Lysa TerKeurst's book "Made To Crave, Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, Not Food" with Chapter One, but there's so much good information in the introduction and I did a lot of highlighting so I decided to give the intro a thread of its own. ;-)
This intro is what made me "buy into" this book. Into the idea of replacing my cravings for food with a craving for God. Why? Because it's real. Lysa is real. It's like she saw right into my life...perusing books on healthy eating with a shopping cart full of junk.
I also identified with her list. I am definitely emotionally allergic to normal healthy eating books. Because I love food. Or rather the feelings it gives me. I identify food with my family, with holidays, with having fun. I'm working hard to break that addiction. I also do not crave carrot sticks, although I actually like most fruits and veggies.
What "delights of your tastebuds" do you have trouble giving up? I had fewer issues than I thought giving up pop, but I do believe coffee is next for me and that one's going to be tough. I love my coffee, but I love it all doctored up with fancy-schmancy creamer. I tried to assuage my guilt with fat-free versions, but it's still a lot of empty calories. I believe I'll have to limit myself to a frou-frou coffee at Sbux once every other week when I shop. Good thing I like hot tea...
I had never thought about the story of the rich man in terms of anything but money. It really kind of hit me that it can be applied to anything we're reluctant to part with! Here's what I highlighted:
"Suddenly, Jesus isn't just staring at the rich young man; He's also staring at me - the inside me. The part I can't cover up with excuses or makeup."
Ouch.
And then with the story of Adam and Eve! How did I never realize that Satan found the one thing most women would struggle with and use it to orchestrate the fall of mankind. FOOD.
My favorite quote from the intro:
"Honestly, I am made for more than a vicious cycle of eating, gaining, stressing...I am made to rise up, do battle with my issues and, using the Lord's strength in me, defeat them - spiritually, physically, and mentally - to the glory of God."
God does care about our cravings and our struggles with food. Our struggles are important to Him and He has so much more to say about them than I ever imagined.
What have you learned from the intro?
