Seeking tips to avoid comfort eating

Well, I'm back here trying to keep motivated. I started on here 4 years ago and lost 4 stone keeping it off for a couple of years but I put 39lbs back on! Unfortunately, I'm a comfort eater and I popped on two stone after my mum died in October 2016 from Alzheimers despite running a half marathon in May last year to raise funds for Alzheimers. The running also sent a message to my head that I could eat what I liked because I was regularly increasing my distance and I felt hungry all the time, or I thought I did. This is NOT the case and all it did for me was ensure I was the fat one who could run...... I'm prone to comfort eating when things go wrong - I put a lot of weight on when my Dad died too. I think it's because I'm trying to fill 'the hole' left. Does anyone have any tips for avoiding this? The good thing is that I've lost 3lbs this week which takes my overall loss to 17lbs.

Try distracting yourself instead with a game or hobby.
I stopped buying treats, simple theory of if they’re not in the house I can’t eat them.3 -
Drink a glass or 2 of water or even have a fruity tea. I like mango green tea .0

I am also a comfort eater, even when not facing difficult situations like yours. I usually eat late in the evening as well, probably to make up for being tired. Tea works for me too. I also took up drawing lately so I try to spend some time doing that just before I eat something and by the end of the drawing I don't want it anymore. It is even better if you can get out of the house for a bit, I have kids so I usually cannot do that. If I feel down I try to sleep early to avoid late night snacks. Good luck!0

I comfort eat but only when I am at home. Weekends can be terrible especially as there will be snacks for the children. Is it part of every Dad's routine to spend an half and hour looking for your daughter's cake that you ate the night before? If I am feeling in that 'don't want to do anything mood' I leave my wallet at home, take a few pounds in change with me and go for a walk. I try not to buy anything but if I am bored I'll buy a coffee and read the paper for an hour.2
