Is calories burnt right?

I have been using my fitbit for six months now. Between dieting and lots of walking I lost 46 pounds so far! I have ten more pounds to go. I have a question. I go on the fitbit app and they say I burnt like lets say 1500 calories like If I walk 5 miles. Is it correct?

Does it actually say you burnt 1500 calories for 5 miles?
Or rather you did a 5 mile walk and your daily total calorie burn happens to be 1500 when you look at it?
The former would indeed be wrong, the latter would not.

Congratulations on your weight loss!
Agreeing with heybales comments.
Just a thought; have you set your FitBit to your walking stride? If not, your step count won't be as accurate. There are instructions on how to do that on the FitBit website.

Thanks to both of you! I will try what you suggested!
