States or Countries You've Run In?

Just a fun thing I thought might be interesting. There are several sites where you can create custom shaded maps. I thought I'd make a map of the states I've run. Now I know it's not many states, and I bet some of you could nearly fill the map. Where have you run? See below the image for the site and instructions
- To create your own map go to https://m.maploco.com/
- On the right side you can pick a world map, Europe map, US states or Canadian provinces. Click on the map you want.
- On the next screen click on all the countries or states you've run in. As you click the map will change to reflect this.
- When you're done, you'll see the "Share Your Link:" link which will give you a direct link to your map. Click this.
- Now you have the image file showing. Right click and save the image (it will be a png file, not a jpg). Now you can upload it to your post.

Cool! You'll have to give me a couple years though, before my map looks interesting So far it's either 4 States on the US map, or 3 countries on the world map. Not bad for 2 years of running! I think it would be fun to try for marathons in different countries.2

This is the states I've run races in. I'm not sure I know all the states that I've run in when stopped for the night on a road trip; that would add Illinois, and I'm not sure whether there are any others. If I hadn't spent so much time on the couch, I could have added Michigan and Oklahoma as racing states.3 -
I'm heading down to the Kansas City area this weekend for a race. I've already run in Kansas before, but if my legs are up for it, I found what appears to be some pretty good trails in Missouri I'll hit on the way home, adding another state to my map.1

I'm not sure if I can remember every state I've run in, but these are the states where I've raced:
Here is where I can recall running:
The map of where I have hiked is much more impressive:
6 -
I've only raced in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and the UK. But I'm rather chuffed with my hiking map.
8 -
I'd really like to do more running in Georgia. We ran on the beach.
Anyone see that commercial about saving for retirement? "I'm a lifeguard in Savannah, I'm 85 and I wanna go home" funny funny funny! I wanna run more in Savannah. Even if I'm 850 -

I never did stop to run in Missouri. I decided it was more important to let my ITB recover.
For maps, I picked running over racing just so I could pick more states. I've only raced in MN, WI and KS.
My bro-in-law and his wife moved to Tennessee. Now I'm looking for an ultra to run there this fall or next spring. If that trip works out I could pick up IN and KY on the way.0 -

I'm not sure where you were at in MO, but there is a rails-trails trail that goes E-W in southern MO. IIRC, I got on where it through Carthage, which is North of Joplin by a short distance. It would be an out and back, of course, but is otherwise a nice trail going through some small towns... so there are convenience stores to resupply food/drink and restroom along the way. Just an idea for next time.1 -
I am having a hard time remembering if I have run in some states, so I left them out because my run must not have been too memorable, but I kind of think I may have a couple more. I also have run in Canada and in Italy.
ETA: Oh, I definitely have run in Louisiana as well.2 -

Thanks, @midwesterner85 . I don't get that far south in Missouri too often but next time I do I'll look out for it. Could it have been the Ruby Jack Trail?
Normally I'm going to or coming back from KC. I found a state park just off I-35, Wallace State Park, which has about 5 or 6 miles of trails I can hit at some point.

Yes, Ruby Jack Trail.
You are coming from the east?0 -

You are coming from the east?
From the north. I frequently drive from Minneapolis to KC, though with my daughter graduating from KU in May, that trip won't be as frequent.

Ah, so you probably just follow I-35 all the way. I don't know much of MO along that route. I live in SW Iowa (just over the border), but the areas I know between me and KC are closer to I-29.0 -
This is such a great idea, and so motivating! I do a lot of travel in the US for my job, but often end up on the hotel treadmill--this inspires to try to get out and explore more, even if only for 30-45 min. My world running map would include only the unlikely combination of Canada, Sri Lanka, and Israel/Palestine.

Nice map, @simcon1! I agree, this will motivate me to run more when we travel. I'm going to start annoying my family by insisting we stop in every state while I run a couple of miles. Then they'll get to enjoy my sweat in the car until we stop for the night. I could have picked up 5 more states last summer when we drove to the OBX.2 -
That's a very cool idea! Although my map of US states in which I've run in would be pretty blank
Here's my Europe running map, to the best of my knowledge. There is a faint possibility I ran in Poland in 2012 or in Norway in 2013, but I didn't have a GPS watch back then. Or maybe those vacations were in "off"-phases of my on-again-off-again running history and didn't go running there... So I left them blank. Will have to go there again I guess
It's cool to read about where everyone would fill out the world running map too. I could add Canada, Japan and maybe China. "Maybe" China because in the week I was there the smog was so horrible that I only ran on the treadmill inside the hotel, so it doesn't really feel like it counts.
E.T.A. European countries I have visited are a lot more. I should have started running when I was much younger, then my map could have been this2 -
These are the states I have done half's in1
