Welcome to the Get Fit Griffins!
This is a place for Fontbonne students (and anyone else interested in getting involved in awesome activities with awesome people!) to get connected to each other for physical activities, learning new things, and exploring life!
The idea for this group was started by casual conversations that usually involved topics like
"I want to go for a walk between classes, but I hate going by myself."
"I've wanted to learn Zumba, but I don't want to mess it up and look silly in front of strangers."
"I've always been interested in yoga/running/weight lifting/random topic, but I don't know where to learn it and I can't afford a trainer/classes."
"I want to lose weight/get healthy, but I'm so unmotivated...I just feel too drained after studying all day/night! I need someone else to kick my tushy for me to get in shape!"
With all those thoughts in mind, I realized that even though there are plenty of wonderful clubs and programs at Fontbonne, there really isn't a central place we can chat/post/connect about getting together for working out or talking about health. After being invited to join the student/staff Weight Watchers on campus and having to decline because of money, I tried to think of a free and easy way students could connect. MyFitnessPal is a free, easy service that anyone can sign up for. It seemed to make sense to tie in a group with an application that would help us track our diets and make a whole community of supporting people available to us!
Anyone can join this group and I encourage members to share emails and phone numbers (Offline or through private messages only please! No posting personal information on a public board!). Ping each other through texts and get up, get moving, and get involved with life on campus and around St. Louis!
I also encourage members to join team activities around St. Louis! Have a 5K or challenge event that you want to do, but don't want to do alone? Start a sign up discussion here! Want to get together before classes in the morning and do some yoga? See who else wants to get involved with a post!
Don't know how to approach a new life change or have questions that Google just isn't answering to your satisfaction? Put it on here and see what your fellow students find! Need someone to just vent to or listen? We are here for ALL aspects of health, mental and physical. Our ears & shoulders are yours to lean on. *e-hugs!*
Please feel free to make comments, suggestions, or have fun. We can only make this fun for everyone if we get everyone involved in making it fun!
