Hello! My name is Samantha. A couple of months ago I finally got my diagnosis of PCOS (after years of undiagnosed and untreated pain). I've had MFP for a few years, and have only been using it for the past few weeks. I'm looking for friends who have an idea of what I have been going through.

I was similarly "late" diagnosed. I can trace my PCOS symptoms back to my teen years, but it took Morbid Obesity and bursting cysts to finally get a diagnosis at 35. And that was after a miscarriage and successful birth (my DD is 17 now)...all without diagnosis, treatment, or help...

This group is busier at some times and slower at other times, so maybe some of the regulars will come out of the woodworks to help welcome you!

A few of our ladies have recently had babies - or are present pregnant, and so they're not here as often...

I also just started being active on here after having an account for a few years. Two months ago, I went in to get my acne looked at by a dermatologist and after going through my health history, he thought that I might have PCOS. When the blood results came back, one of my hormone levels were moderately high, indicating PCOS. I had an appointment with a different doctor, and she took some fasting blood tests and a saliva test to test for any rare diseases before she starts treating me for PCOS. I'm just waiting for those results to get back.

Hello and welcome. :-) I'm really sorry you are going through this to. It's good to have support from others who can actually relate. I have had MFP for years and managed to lose 40 lbs but gained it all back by not sticking with it and tracking my diet. I have always had extremely irregular cycles with painful periods since I was 13 but I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 20. I'm currently 26. I'm at rock bottom now and I'm fed up. Heaviest weight I've ever been, inflammation throughout my body (pain & swelling), infertility, mood swings and lack of concentration. I have heard of a few success stories and I just met a lady a couple of months back who told me she had PCOS and beat it! She is now a friend of mine. That was great news to me because I was told by several sources that it was not curable around the time I was diagnosed. I want to be more happy, healthy and feel young like I should at 26. I'm back in the app and staying especially since the weight is more stubborn this time. My Dad recently passed away from severe Type 2 Diabetes so I want to prevent myself from getting it. I need to take charge of my Life and let God give me the strength. I'm here to let you know you have some new cyster friends and feel free to message me anytime. 😊

I will say, I'm curious as to what you mean by "curing PCOS."

I've heard of folks conceiving with PCOS, living healthfully with PCOS, resolving insulin resistance, dropping weight, etc., but I've not EVER heard of any actual cure for underlying conditions. So I don't want you to live with false hope here... I've heard of managing symptoms - and managing them VERY WELL...

But much like diabetes, if you go back to eating poorly after getting off medications, the diabetes activates again, as I don't think the changes in the pancreas and such can be completely undone... But I'm not a doctor or specialist of any kind...

Remission and mitigation of symptoms are very real goals...but I don't know of a "cure" with any level of permanency exists...

@KnitOrMiss I hear you and I agree. I also heard the same thing but I'm just saying what my friend has mentioned but I'm not 100% as I didn't go through it myself and don't have any paperwork to back it up. She told me that she "cured it" and that all of her levels were normal, no cysts and cycles are now right on time every month. That can also happen if it is in remission. She has maintained her new way of living so I don't know if her symptoms would return but I would assume that they would. Either way, I'd like to get myself there.

There's no such thing as 'curing it' yet and it bothers me when people just go "I've cured it!" as if that's the end of that. Remission bothers me too, it gives a false impression that it's like cancer and can go away. It'd be more accurate to say 'I have my PCOS balanced".
