Swelling....

Okay, so I was on vacation and overdid it. Walked 10+ miles one day and 6+ the next. Combined with eating out (probably too much sodium) and 2 days of 6+ hrs driving and I'm a mess.
Feet, legs, ankles are all swollen. I got home and learned I was up 7 lbs in 4ish days. I know it's swelling, as my husband has been squeezing my feet and I can physically feel the fluid get pushed up and out of them. I'm currently wearing compression sleeves and drinking tons of water. Keeping feet up as much as I can. I lost about 3 lbs overnight.
Anything else I can do?? I'm giving it a couple days for the swelling to go down dramatically and if it doesn't I'll call my doctor. (I read it's best to call if you gain more than 4 lbs in a week). This came out of nowhere. Last week, before vacation, I was walking 3-4 miles about every other day and all was good....

Apple Cider Vinegar is known to help with swelling. When I have swelling or am sick I will do up to 3 Tablespoons in water or juice per day. Braggs is the best brand as it has to be unfiltered and raw to be effective.
I would also elevate your feet and do circles with your ankles to increase blood flow to and from the area. Stear clear of salt and drink lemon water.
Thats all I got. I hope you find some relief!0 -
How many weeks are you? Of course some swelling is normal as your body prepares for delivery it holds onto fluid. Make sure you up your protein and of course the water. I wouldnt cut out the salt as I was reading that it is not recommended as salt helps with the amniotic fluid and the extra fluid your blood needs. Remember NO diuretics that could spell big problems for you and the baby.
Put your feet up and contact your doctor just so they can check your urine and blood pressure.
That's awesome you could walk that much my hips kill me lately, so for you to keep going is so really amazing0 -

Lots of this, my swelling was a result of preeclampsia. It started at the start of the week and by the end of the week I had to have my baby early. It could be nothing but better safe then sorry!0 -

This is worth conidering, especially if you are having any other symptoms.
However, I know that I react strongly to overdoing it and especially high levels of sodium. I always add salt to meals, but eating out that much is a whole other ball game. I can easily jump five or more pounds just by eating out too much and would imagine combining that iwth a lot of outdoor summer activity would spell disaster for me personally. Luckily, that type of swelling should subside quickly. If not, I would call your doc just to be on the safe side.0 -
Please go see your doctor or at the very least, go check your blood pressure. I have had preeclampsia with all of my children and swelling is the first symptom especially if it doesn't go away over night or if it is your hands/face.
Tips for general edema:
Keep your feet elevated above your heart in the evening
At work or home, try to get your feet up as much as possible and rotate your ankles occasionally
Do not cross your legs or wear socks that cut off your circulation
Swimming helps with swelling a lot
Massage helps with swelling a lot
Watch your sodium intake
Make sure you are getting lots of protein, calcium and vitamin c
Ask your doctor about taking baby aspirin 1x per day
Look into the Brewer diet which helps with preeclampsia
Consider compression stockings
Drink lots of H2o!0 -

Been doing the Brewer's diet for the past two days and my systolic went down 30 points and my diastolic 3. I also feel better, but I still have the nagging headache hoping more days on the diet, water water water, some meditation and light walking can bring it down some more. My feet still looked like sausages last night.
PS good reminder on the ankle rotation0 -
Thanks ladies. I plan on calling my doctor Thursday if it's not significantly better, as I am sure it's the result of massive amounts of walking followed by sitting in a car for a long time....and now humidity. Awesome.
I'm currently rocking the short-shorts and compression sleeves from ankle to knee look. Sexy My BP was 66/110 when I took it this morning. Heartbeat is strong, baby is kicking. I'm 23 weeks now. Sounds like I've got the right idea with rest/elevate/compress/stay away from excess sodium. Just hoping this clears up soon so I can get back to my normal life soon!0 -
Update: I can see my foot bones again, and my ankles too! Turned on the AC and they popped out within an hour!!!0
