Welcome to the September Basics Challenge!
I feel so strongly about how crucial this is, I'm having a Basics challenge every month.

Bah, basics! Entirely boring and unsexy, right?
Guess what though? It will get you to your goal. Basics aren't flashy or exciting, but this is how it's done.

One key thing that I have learned in my journey is this:
Consistency + Persistence + Time = Success

Consistently nailing the basics is so important. And consistency creates good habits, routines, and gives you momentum that will carry you through hard times or disruptions to your normal schedule. Forget motivation. Motivation is a fickle thing. Discipline carries you through when motivation fails you.

So what are the basics?
Well, hitting your carb goal, obviously, right? There are other very important basics we need to lock in: staying hydrated, keeping electrolytes up, logging consistently (if you're a logger), exercise (if that's one of your goals), hitting your macros, staying away from trigger foods and other things you know set you back...

You can report your progress to your goal, whether it be ultra-obsessive daily hitting your low-carb plan basics, or working on a fitness goal, or even nailing down other good habits in your life. And if you have problems or need advice, you'll find that here.

Each week there will be a thread to collect your progress that week and to interact with other challengers.
I'll keep links to the weekly threads at the bottom of the stickied post should the thread get buried. 2 clicks, to this post and the Weekly link, will get you back to it.

So go ahead and post your goals in this Thread.
My daily post would look something like this.

Wed 9/1:
Logged: :+1:
Water: :+1:
Electrolytes: :+1:
Calorie Goal: :+1:
Carb Goal: :+1:
Exercise: HIIT :+1:
Prelogged next day: :+1:
7/7

But this is your show. So focus on your basics.

Make this month count! Tear it up!:+1:

Unusually busy week and I found myself barely signing in and definitely not logging. I will be back to my normal schedule tomorrow. Packing my sneakers to bring to the office for a walk at lunch then. Food has been great.

I was a "fail" last week in regards to intentional exercise though I did get in 100 minutes. Eating has been a bit off though not problematic as a friend and I continue to experiment to create the perfect dining experience for our "French (dining) Affair" on October 6th.

Saturday involved eating about of pound of fillet mignon :) as we tested the most reasonable cooking method for a crowd. Perfectly cooked Steak au Poivre including determining the most acceptable cognac or brandy and type of pepper for the "au poivre" part. :) We also experimented with perfecting a bechamel (tasty to our liking) for our mini Croque Monsieur appetizer (glorified grilled ham and cheese). The best ham and the tastiest gryere has been determined.

There are many more choices on "the menu". I'll not elaborate on them all. It has been fun and I've not gained despite eating "off plan"....calories in check.

Right now I need to get busy and make sure we're properly prepared for Hurricane Florence which is expected to hit on Thursday at about a category 3 inland. We're dead center for the inland hit. I've sent invites to my coastal friends. They'll likely be safer here than at the coast. Invites, cash, gas, propane, car charger, batteries, candles, lighters/matches, disposable plates/cups/utensils are the only things that have a check mark. I doubt there is bottled water
or more batteries to be found at this point in time. :/ We survived Fran in 1996.

Didn’t do great on Saturday as a pancake craving hit so carbs were over goal but Sunday was much better and I only ate when hungry. Today I worked late and felt like I was starving, overate at dinner and went over carbs because of it. Tomorrow should be much better. Will also try to get a run in as well as weights.

Spent 3 hours at DMV yesterday, that killed my appetite for the night. Walking at lunch today and packed a good breakfast and snacks. Spaghetti squash for dinner. May skip lunch unless the cafeteria has a good soup today.

LOL. Our DMV has a similar impact.

Things are good; life is crazy.

I spent the last two weekends with two additional children which was fun, but tiring. Work is crazy right now but will hopefully calm down just a bit in a few weeks.

Food is good, gym and sleep are taking turns suffering. I need to make more of an effort getting both in line as it's how I function best.

Stress from work may be tripping me up a bit this week- scale has gone up and I float from not hungry to bored and eating too much. I’ve still just been watching carbs and have missed my goal a few times, mainly from a lot of vegetables. I’m going to up my water intake and take it easy on the coffee with cream I’ve been drinking more of. Missed some exercise as well from later days so I expect to go back to normal in the next day or so.

Got back to normal with running at the end of this week but eating is still “off”. I’ve been snacking a lot which I think is due to stress. All along I’ve struggled with listening to my hunger signals. That will continue to be my focus for the rest of the month.

Another week of vacation with the in-laws to go, and have been eating on track (though more wine & vodka than usual). My MIL does not always get keto, but oh well... she will such as ask if I want ice cream, planned a meatloaf with breadcrumbs (I pulled off some meat prior to that addition and made a burger patty), and asked if I want oatmeal after I said I can't have waffles cause carbs (scrambled eggs are my easy fav breakfast go-to anyway).

Week 2 is a bust. We've had friends who live at the coast with us since Tuesday. Hurricane Florence spared their house but power is still out there and parts of Interstate 40 and 70 are closed as are the back roads they would take to get home. Rain. Rain. Rain. Major flooding down there. Still raining here and there. :(

Down a lb this week. Went for a walk last night and back in the gym this morning. Enjoyed a well earned glass of wine and some dark chocolate tonight.
