I think I'm going to try this as well. I won't get to 18 minutes but I want to train for a 5k and see what I can do. I generally run a couple every year but my training is geared toward marathons (expect for a couple weeks when train for a mile race).

I figured something like that. But I'll cheer on @dewd2 for sure!

An 18 minute 5K is beyond my capability. If I train well and everything lines up perfectly on race day, I might break under 19 minutes; so if 18:59 is an 18 minute 5K, I suppose it's possible.

But I won't make it a major goal, and I won't be surprised if it never happens. The fastest 5K I ever ran, on a day when there was no logical reason I should have been able to run that fast, was 19:07 at age 60. The world class 65 year old runners don't need to worry about me aging up.

I should probably do more 5k training, since I do a lot of them. But really 25 minutes would be a major accomplishment for me, and I like being able to do longer distances. So I'm not sure how I'd balance it. Theoretically the speed work I do now should help.
